Parnell as Brokaw, and Three-Second Follow-Ups

brokaw_10-10.jpgThe first episode of “Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday” premiered last night on NBC, with a lengthy debate cold open kicking things off and two segments of Weekend Update.

Tom Brokaw was played by SNL alum Chris Parnell (earlier this year, he portrayed Jim Lehrer during another debate sketch), who focused his attention on Brokaw’s strict adherence to debate rules. Other parodies included Brokaw’s teleprompter mishap and his choice of questions.

And once again, the debate was made to look like it was on CNN (and not NBC or MSNBC).

Featured in the sketch was a very famous SNL alum, who asked the “candidates” if the Chicago Cubs would ever win a World Series (and speaking of Chicago, Bill Ayers got a mention). Click here to see the sketch

SNL Portrays Various TVNewsers

It was a busy political week, and two of the major TV news events were parodied on Saturday Night Live last night. Friday’s presidential debate was the focus of a lengthy sketch, featuring a return appearance by Chris Parnell as PBS’ Jim Lehrer. Interestingly, the NBC late-night show decided to take the Obama campaign’s cue, and portrayed its broadcast as if it was on CNN. After the jump, the show’s cold open, based around Katie Couric‘s interview this week with Gov. Sarah Palin (featuring a return from Tina Fey):
