As expected, NBC News has announced that Chuck Todd will be the next moderator of “Meet the Press.” His first show will be September 7.
“Chuck will ensure that Meet the Press is the beating heart of politics, the place where newsmakers come to make news, where the agenda is set. We have some exciting plans to evolve and update the broadcast under Chuck’s leadership that we will be sharing with you shortly,” NBC News president Deborah Turness wrote in a note to staff this afternoon.
Todd joined NBC as political director in 2007 and was named chief White House correspondent in 2008. Todd will continue as political director but “hand over his roles” as WH correspondent and as MSNBC’s “Daily Rundown” anchor, according to Turness.
Turness praised David Gregory, who confirmed he is leaving “Meet the Press” and NBC News earlier today, as “an outstanding journalist whose sharp intellect and quick sense of humor have made him a pleasure to work with.”
Andrea Mitchell is slated to host this weekend and “will continue to be a central figure of the broadcast, along with some new names that we will announce in the coming days,” Turness says.
