Tom Kelly Joining Twins Booth for Four Games

Former Twins manager Tom Kelly, who led Minnesota to its two World Series titles in 1987 and 1991, is joining the Twins broadcast booth on Fox Sports North for four games this week. Kelly’s stint begins this afternoon when the team hosts the Rays and continues Thursday, Friday and Sunday when the team faces the White Sox in Chicago. Kelly is filling in for Bert Blyleven, who is taking time off in preparation for his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame later this month.

In the past Kelly has briefly joined Blyleven and play-by-play announcer Dick Bremer in the booth, but this will be the first time he’s serving as a full-game analyst. Bremer, for one, thinks he’s game for the role.

“There’s no question he’s got a wealth of knowledge about the game and the players,” Bremer said. “I’ll be very interested how much he enjoys it. Most people who cross over to the dark side, as we call it, really enjoy it once they get used to it.”

Kelly, for his part, said, “We’ll see how comfortable I can get. I might be like a fish out of water there, I’m not sure. We’ll have to wait and see what happens. Let’s hope it’s a good game and I can contribute something to the festivities and maybe make somebody think about something a little bit.”

Sugar Bowl Earns 8.4 Overnight Rating

Ohio State’s 31-26 win over Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl earned a 8.4 overnight rating on ESPN, the second-highest overnight rating for college football in the network’s history.

Last night’s overnight is down just three percent (8.7) than last year’s Sugar Bowl between Florida and Cincinnati on New Year’s night. Compared to last year’s Orange Bowl that was played on the equivalent Tuesday night, overnights were up 17 percent (7.2). Read more

Show Your Team Spirit as the NBA's New Web Editor

If you’re a sports fan who knows his or her way around HTML and CMS, we have the perfect job for you. The NBA is currently looking for a Web editor to be the liaison between team reps and the league in order to create, produce and publish features on multiple team sites. Sounds like a slam dunk to us.

If hired, you’ll be responsible for coordinating league-wide initiatives and maintaining best practices for the NBA’s editorial, technology, and business priorities. Of course, you’ll be updating content on a regular basis, including news, features, photos, video, and audio. Some event coverage may be necessary, but we hardly think writing about the Finals and All-Star Weekend will be a chore.

The ideal candidate will have three years of Internet publishing experience with a background in writing. You should be familiar with publishing tools and HTML coding, and be computer savvy — yes, this means social media know-how, too. Those who aren’t passionate about the game need not apply.
