Row 44 Bringing Live MLB Games To Southwest

Southwest Airlines customers will soon be able to watch their favorite baseball team 30,000 feet in the air.

Row 44 Inc., Southwest’s in-flight broadband Internet provider, signed a deal with Major League Baseball that will allow the airline giant to stream audio and video broadcasts to passengers’ Wi-Fi enabled devices.

“Major League Baseball is such a part of the fabric of America — and has always been more than a professional sports organization,” said Howard Lefkowitz, Row 44′s chief commercial officer. “It is an honor that they’ve chosen to undertake this innovation with Row 44 — becoming the first sports league to offer in-flight live streaming video of its games. This partnership is the first in a series that underscore Row 44′s commitment to creating a unique broadband entertainment experience for our airline partners and their customers.”

Southwest is slated to have their entire fleet wired by 2013.

Joe Buck: "I'd Happily Step Aside To Hear Vin Scully"

The petition to have Vin Scully call one last World Series is gaining momentum.

Fox Sports play-by-play voice Joe Buck told the Los Angeles Daily News that he would step aside to have Scully call the action:

“Personally, I’d love it,” Buck said the other day. “We’ve always toyed with the idea of having the hometown guy involved in a World Series broadcast. I’m from that camp. In my dad’s era, we paid a nod of tribute to the greats. And there’s no one like Vin, or close to Vin. I’d happily step aside to hear his voice (on the World Series). I would not fight that at all. That’s just how I grew up. As far as I’m concerned, he could be part of it every year. I’m not selfish. I realize who the game’s greats are, and I always defer to them – my dad (Jack Buck), Ernie Harwell, Curt Gowdy, Harry Caray. There are only a handful of guys who are as identifiable with their organizations as any player is.”

Fox, please make this happen.

Hell in a Cell: WWE Launches Mobile Magazine

World Wrestling Entertainment has an Official Mobile Magazine. For $2.99 a month, the weekly publication promises to be “stuffed with as much content as your phone can handle,” like interviews with wrestling stars, blog posts and breaking news. Let’s hope your phone can fight back.

The application is the latest in a series of Mozines from startup company ThumbMedia Group in Burbank, CA, which designs and distributes mobile magazines for publishers across multiple platforms. Mozine also created the ad for the application, which ran in the October issue of the print edition. Said ThumbMedia CEO Mike Cartabiano:

We’ve just launched on the iPhone and we’re already #85 on the top 200 paid entertainment applications, which is pretty spectacular. We have – last time I looked – a 5-star rating. We’re happy, they’re happy, it’s been a very seamless process for the WWE team in working with us.

Android and Blackberry editions are coming soon.
