SummerSlam Grosses More Than $1 Million

WWE’s SummerSlam grossed more than $1 million this past Sunday, thanks to a sold out crowd of 17,404 fans at Staples Center in Los Angeles, according to the sports entertainment company.

That amount marks the highest grossing SummerSlam pay-per-view held at Staples Center, which has been the home of the WWE event since 2009.

Celebrities in attendance included actor Kellan Lutz, Michael Clark Duncan, Morris Chestnut, Jenny McCarthy, Los Angeles Lakers’ Ron Artest, Dancing With The StarsCheryl Burke, Karina Smirnoff and Lacey Schwimmer.

DeSean Jackson Issues Statement Regarding Gay Slur

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson issued a statement regarding his use of a gay slur on the All Out Show with Rude Jude and Lord Sear on Sirius XM’s Shade 45:

“In a recent radio interview a caller got really confrontational with me. I got very heated with the caller, took it a bit too far and did not mean to offend anybody. I meant no disrespect and a better choice of words was needed.”

Deadspin discovered the June 30th interview where a caller offended Jackson and he responded by saying “gay-ass f****.”

 

 

2011 WNBA Draft Headed To ESPN Headquarters

The 2011 WNBA Draft (yes, the WNBA is still around) will be held on April 11 at ESPN in Bristol, Conn.

It marks the first time a professional sports league will conduct its draft at ESPN headquarters. The last two years, the WNBA Draft was held at the NBA Studios in Secaucus, N.J.

ESPN2 will televise the first round starting at 3 p.m. ET and ESPNU and NBA TV will air the second and third rounds from 4-5:30 p.m. ESPN3.com will also simulcast the event. Read more
