U.S. Representative Anthony Weiner (D-NY) is opening an investigation into TV gold dealers… and cites hosts like Glenn Beck who he says “drive a false narrative.”

Specifically, Weiner seems to be targeting Goldline, which is a regular sponsor of Beck’s TV show, radio program, and web properties.

A press release announcing the investigation states:

Goldline employs several conservative pundits to act as shills for its’ precious metal business, including Glenn Beck, Mike Huckabee, Laura Ingraham, and Fred Thompson. By drumming up public fears during financially uncertain times, conservative pundits are able to drive a false narrative…

There’s a new player in the competition to take over Bill O’Reilly‘s Westwood One radio gig — former presidential candidate Fred Thompson. The New York Times’ Brian Stelter writes that Thompson “will begin hosting a two-hour show in March.”

But besides Thompson, Rudy Giuliani is also reported to be in negotiations with Westwood One, while John Gibson was announced last week as replacing O’Reilly’s FOX News Talk role.

“The syndicators hope that boldface names will help retain listeners in a fragmented world of media,” writes Stelter, as he points to a March 2 start date for the likely Thompson-O’Reilly switch.

…Or so says Laura Ingraham, who hosted Just In at 5pmET on Fox News for just three weeks.

Ingraham is the latest in the list of news anchors to get pre-show footage leaked to Harry Shearer‘s MyDamnChannel.com.

The video shows Ingraham berating her staff (“You’re talking too much” or “Don’t hover at me”), declaring her show a “train wreck,” and asking if what she saw as a problem was, “the Fox way of doing things?”

Her rants even crack up guest Fred Thompson at one point.

FNC insiders tell us Ingraham’s off air behavior had nothing to do with the ending of the show. The show was designed to have a limited run. Insiders say she a “valuable talent” with a “long future at Fox” and she continues to be the lead substitute anchor for Bill O’Reilly.
