Katie Couric, Roger Ailes, Piers Morgan and Matt Lauer Walk Into a Super Bowl Pep Rally…

If it seemed like TV news was particularly quiet this afternoon, it was likely because New York’s Michaels restaurant hosted a pre-Super Bowl “Pep Rally,” and just about everyone was there.

Don’t believe us? Among the attendees were Fox News CEO Roger Ailes, Fox News anchors Brian Kilmeade and Jamie Colby, ABC’s Katie Couric and Andrea Canning, NBC’s Matt Lauer, Brian Williams and Savannah Guthrie, CNN’s Piers Morgan, CBS’ Chris Licht and Gayle King and, just for good measure, Whoopi Goldberg, Star Jones, singer John Mayer, John McEnroe, Cablevision CEO James Dolan and movie tycoon Harvey Weinstein, among many others.

You can see more names at the Michael’s New York Twitter feed.

Update: Our own Diane Clehane was there, and spotted Regis Philbin, Bill O’Reilly, former New York Governor George Pataki and plenty of others. Her report and photos are here.

In other words, it was quite the crowd. Couric and Ailes even had a nice chat, as Niche Media founder Jason Binn noted on Twitter.

Democratic Operative Turned Glenn Beck’s Publicist

The Washington Post profiles Matthew Hiltzik, personal publicist to, among others, Glenn Beck. The story wonders how a former democratic operative — he worked on Hillary Rodham Clinton‘s Senate campaign — ends up representing “arguably the most influential and incendiary conservative critic in America.”

PRNewser has has Hiltzik’s answer.

There is not just an interesting political pairing between the two, but also a unique religious one.

The article notes that in the Clinton campaign, Hiltzik was the “go-to liaison to New York’s Jewish community” and one of Hiltzik’s former bosses, Harvey Weinstein, “called his former right hand a deeply religious, brilliant guy.”

The NY Times proposed this week that religion has also contributed to the success of Hiltzik’s client. The Times’ Idea of the Day blog cites this piece and writes, “Today’s idea: Glenn Beck’s conversion to the Mormon faith “corresponds precisely” with his rise as a media force — and may explain his teary sentimentality.”

As for that “rise as a media force,” yesterday Beck broke the 3 million Total Viewer mark for the ninth time this year.

Larry King’s Gift to the World: Himself

King_7.14.jpgHarvey Weinstein announced today that the publishing arm of The Weinstein Company has acquired the rights to publish Larry King‘s “definitive autobiography,” What Am I Doing Here?

In a press release, King said, “I am delighted to be working with Bob and Harvey, who have distinguished themselves by making award-winning films and publishing quality books. Their books are some of the most talked-about and well-produced titles in the business, and I am thrilled to be one of their authors. My life story could not be in better hands,” King said.

In addition to discussing personal details including his seven marriages to six women, and discovering at age 65 that he had a fully grown son he never knew about, King will also reveal his feelings about George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Ronald Regan, Jimmy Carter and Richard Nixon. He also intends to disclose who he voted for in each election and why.

What Am I Doing Here? will be Published for Father’s Day 2009.
