Hoda and Kathie Lee on New Year’s Eve

klgandhoda_a

It’s pretty much New Year’s Eve every day on the FHOTS (Fourth Hour of the ‘Today’ Show), but now Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford are bringing their schtick — and the booze — to NBC’s primetime for a New Year’s Eve special. Gifford and Kotb host “A Toast to 2013!” on New Year’s Eve at 8pmET/7pmCT.

From Pope Francis to Paula Deen, from Anthony Weiner to Prince George and from selfies to twerking, the 2-hour special will discuss the buzziest stories of the last year. Jane Lynch, Michael Buble, Sheryl Sandberg, Pharrell Williams and Questlove weigh in on some of the year’s biggest moments. They’re joined by NBC News and MSNBC hosts who remember the old and ring in the new.

Piers Morgan Tonight Getting Guest-Hosts Next Week

CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” is following in the footsteps of its predecessor “Larry King Live,” and having guest-hosts for all of next week while Morgan is in London filming “Life Stories.”

Among those filling in for Morgan: Wolf Blitzer, Glee’s Jane Lynch, Ad exec and NBC regular Donny Deutsch, Rosie O’Donnell and Arsenio Hall. Blitzer will anchor a politically-focused show on Tuesday, with the other hosts covering a wide swath of topics, from entertainment to politics. Blitzer previously filled in for Morgan the evening that Steve Jobs passed away, though the show has never gone a full week with guest-hosts.

“Piers Morgan Tonight” has been tweaking its format recently, including a new segment called ‘Only in America,” where Morgan gives his take on the news of the day.

Anderson Cooper Town Hall on Bullying

CNN’s Anderson Cooper hosts a town hall on bullying tomorrow night. Taped at Rutgers University, guests include “Glee” star Jane Lynch , psychologist and talk-show host Dr. Phil McGraw, talk show host and mother of three Kelly Ripa.

One year ago, Rutgers freshman Tyler Clementi jumped to his death from the George Washington bridge after being the target of online bullying by his roommate.

Tomorrow’s town hall, Bullying: It Stops Here, begins a week of programming for CNN’s AC360 as the network partners with Facebook, Cartoon Network and Time Inc. taking a stand to help stop bullying.

Bullying: It Stops Here premieres tomorrow at 8pmET/PT and will re-air Friday during AC360′s normal timeslot: 8pm and 10pmET.

Sarah Palin Parties with the Main (or is it Lame?) stream Media

Seeming to put politics aside for a few hours — not one but two GOP governors stopped in to the MSNBC After Party last night at the Italian Embassy in Washington DC: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie — often the target of MSNBC’s opinionated hosts — and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (right, meeting NBC News correspondent Luke Russert for the first time). Palin, as we reported yesterday, was the guest of Fox News anchor Greta Van Susteren.

As MSNBC host/mixologist Rachel Maddow made a drink for “Glee’s” Jane Lynch, MSNBC boss Phil Griffin, worked the room. It’s his after party afterall. And not missing an opportunity to synergize, Cee lo Green, of NBC’s “The Voice” was the entertainment.

In addition to Van Susteren, we spotted Bret Baier from Fox News chatting with NBC’s Savannah Guthrie. NBC News president Steve Capus and “Today” show EP Jim Bell — who’d both just returned from London covering the Royal Wedding and sharing ratings info on his Blackberry. Looks like “Today” was #1 again on Royal Wedding day. (Final numbers later on TVNewser).

Eliot Spitzer in tow with CNN’s chief communicator Christa Robinson; Roland Martin, David Bohrman, and Sam Feist also of CNN and ABC’s Jim Sciutto.

We chatted up CNBC’s Rick Santelli, in from Chicago, Carl Quintanilla and Hampton Pearson. NBC’s Janet Shamlian, and Kelly O’Donnell and MSNBC’s Dylan Ratigan and Contessa Brewer, now almost four months along. Ed Schultz was proud to tell us he’s overtaken Anderson Cooper in the ratings at 10pm, in just his third month on the air. “Big news,” says big Ed.

Meanwhile, over at the Bloomberg/Vanity Fair party, tipsters tell us Jake Tapper, Dave Price, John Dickerson, Chris Isham, Gayle King, and Seth Meyers [who'd poked fun at the thought that the Bloomberg party was a hot ticket], were still in full party mode at 2:15am. “The patio is still packed,” we were emailed. “They started serving breakfast snacks.”

Diane Sawyer on ‘World News’: ‘Watch Out Sue Sylvester. Watch Out’

ABC correspondent John Berman had a post-Super Bowl segment on last night’s “World News” entitled, “Winners and Losers” in which he named the winners and the losers during the game.

Some winners according to Berman were the Packers (obviously) and little Darth Vader and some losers were the fans with tickets who couldn’t get in and Christina Aguilera for her national anthem flub.

The biggest loser? That would be “Glee”‘s fictional coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) for saying “I hate you Diane Sayer” on Sunday’s episode after the Super Bowl. Berman said “you don’t want to mess with Sawyer.”

He’s right. Sawyer ended last night’s “World News” with the line: “Watch out Sue Sylvester. Watch out.”

The battle continued into the Twittersphere. After Sawyer’s tweet yesterday telling Sylvester that “it’s on,” Sylvester retaliated with the following tweet:

Jane Lynch to Katie Couric on ‘Glee’: ‘I hate you Diane Sawyer’

CBS’ Katie Couric was on the post-Super Bowl episode of “Glee.” When Couric broke the news that coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) was “loser of the year,” Lynch said “I thought this was the 10 most fascinating?”

“That’s Barbara Walters,” Couric said.

At the end of the interview coach Sylvester said to the CBS anchor, “I hate you Diane Sawyer.”

Update: Sawyer responded to fictional coach Sylvester on ABC News‘ Twitter feed:

@abcworldnews: From Diane Sawyer: @S_SylvesterGLEE it’s on. As a frm rejected Seneca JV wanna-be cheerleader I’ll meet you in the gym – bring the cannon
