Kelly acknowledged the slip at the end of her show: “Something else that happened on the program is also getting a lot of attention on Twitter and including this tweet from some nice man named Sean who said ‘Megyn you’re a delight to watch and gave a stoic performance after your slip up with Governor Huckabee’s name.’ I thought I was stoic too – I have a heart of a 12 year old boy.”

Meredith Vieira‘s new daytime show debuted today with Jennifer Lopez as the headliner, and cameos by the cast of “Aladdin,” the “Rockettes,” Hoda Kotb and more. Meredith’s family, husband Richard Cohen and her daughter Lily, were on set for the premiere. They shared stories about how Meredith is not the best cook, that she always puts the utensils in the dishwasher the wrong way, and that she’s a sucker for surprises. And then she got one: Read more
Both the “Today” show and the “Tonight Show” are heading to Orlando this week as NBC’s corporate cousin Universal opens Diagon Alley, a new attraction at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Al Roker, Natalie Morales, Willie Geist and Tamron Hall will broadcast the third hour of “Today” from the park on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Jimmy Fallon is bringing “The Tonight Show” to Universal Orlando Resort for a week of shows. Several stars of the Harry Potter movies will guest on “Today,” while Jennifer Lopez, Jimmy Buffett, Rosario Dawson, and Pitbull are among the guests on “Tonight.” Fallon and announcer Steve Higgins also get in on the Miami Vice action for tonight’s opening credit sequence (above).
Universal opened its first Orlando theme park in 1990. NBC merged with Universal in 2004. Orlando is most famous for the theme parks operated by Disney, the first of which opened in 1971. Disney owns NBC rival ABC.
If today’s long-awaited debut of Katie Couric’s syndicated talk show resembled an infomercial for Weight Watchers, that’s because it was.
The first three segments of Couric’s Disney chatfest were devoted almost entirely to guest Jessica Simpson’s post-partum weight loss — thanks to Weight Watchers. There were so many rhapsodic plugs, I kept waiting for the 800 number and my free ginzu knife.
Simpson gushed about her new role as a Weight Watchers poster girl. Then came a sneak preview of her Weight Watchers ad, followed by a full segment joined by her Weight Watchers coach. The capper was a free two-week Weight Watchers membership, via ‘Katie’s’ website.
To be kind, Jessica Simpson was no Sarah Palin, but Couric appeared to be thoroughly enjoying the absence of heavy lifting. After her hellish tenure as anchor of ‘CBS Evening News,’ ‘Katie’ must feel like a fabulous, all-expenses paid vacation. Hey, if Anderson Cooper did it, why not Couric?
Call it ‘Today Extra Lite.’
As has become the fashion, ‘Katie’ opened with a cutesy taped bit. More than a little derivative, given that she did the same thing for her guest-hosting stint on ‘Good Morning America’ in April.
She wakes up from a weird dream and proceeds to tell it to a mystery person in the other twin bed. (An homage to ‘I Love Lucy?’) “I dreamed I left ‘Today’ to anchor the evening news, and I did it for five years, and then I dreamed I was going to be hosting my own daytime talk show!”
Peeling back the covers, a jammies-clad Matt Lauer says: “That wasn’t a dream, and the talk show starts right now!” Cue hilarity.
After almost a full half-hour of Jessica Simpson and Weight Watchers, however, I was reeling from estrogen-induced boredom. Thankfully, the next guest, Sheryl Crow, who composed ‘Katie’s’ up-tempo theme song and is a good friend of the host, had some interesting things to say.
- The first guests on Katie Couric‘s upcoming talk show will be singers Jessica Simpson and Sheryl Crow. The first month of “Katie” will have a theme of “women reinventing themselves,” and the guests represent that theme. Other guests include Jennifer Lopez, Susan Sarandon and 50 Shades of Grey author EL James.
- Investigation Discovery’s “On The Case With Paula Zahn” may be in its sixth season, but it isn’t slowing down in the ratings. Sunday’s episode drew a series best 1.11 household rating, and 1.088 million viewers. it has already been green-lit for a seventh season to debut later this year.
- CNN is adding to its Beirut bureau. Correspondent Mohammed Jamjoom and shooter/producer Raja Razek will be joining the bureau. “Given the daily demands of the news from the region, CNN will be even better poised to cover the stories that need to be told,” senior VP Parisa Khosravi wrote in a note to staff.
Jennifer Lopez, Oprah Winfrey and Justin Bieber are at the top of Forbes’ annual Most Powerful Celebrities list. Unveiled today, the list is compiled based on earnings as well as TV, press, web and social rankings. So while JLo took home a healthy $52 million last year, that’s chump change compared to Glenn Beck, who, while #23 on the list, is #11 (tied with Elton John) in pay, taking home an estimated $80 million, more than Leonardo DiCaprio ($37M), Brad Pitt ($25) and Julia Roberts ($16M) combined. Beck moves up seven spots from last year’s list.
That’s bad ass singer Marc Anthony talking with bad ass ABC News correspondent John Quinones. In his first interview since his split with Jennifer Lopez earlier this summer, Anthony talked with Quinones at his New York City home last Friday. “I’ll always love Jennifer,” is all we hear him say in a promo. The interview airs tomorrow night on “Nightline” with clips on “GMA.”
