ABC Costumes Ripped from the Headlines

WNNHalloween_10.31.jpg

Not to be outdone by that other morning show, ABC’s World News Now got into the Halloween spirit at a scarily early hour this morning. That’s Jeremy Hubbard as all three Jonas Brothers, and Vinita Nair as “Fannie Mae” complete with Monopoly money and houses glued to her beehive.

Nair Named ABC News Anchor

nair_9-16(2).jpgABC News announced today Vinita Nair has been named co-anchor of World News Now and America This Morning.

Nair has been with ABC News as an anchor/correspondent for ABC News Now since December 2007. She has anchored live coverage and news briefs for the digital network.

She has also filled in periodically on the early morning programs, as co-anchor with Jeremy Hubbard, who officially started his role in March.

HD Coming For World News

worldnewsnow_8-24.jpgEarlier this week, a TVNewser tipster emailed that ABC World News Now was being broadcast from Washington, D.C. rather than New York. “They’re actually switching over to HD. A lot of people are making that conversion at home right now. We are, too, at ABC,” said anchor Jeremy Hubbard Vinita Nair at the top of Monday’s show.

It appears the change is coming to a lot of programs for ABC News.

Sources tell TVNewser that beginning tomorrow from Denver, World News with Charles Gibson and Nightline will begin broadcasting in HD. The programs join Good Morning America and This Week, which are currently broadcast in high definition. And this year for the first time, ABC’s primetime coverage of the convention (10pm) will be in HD as well.

More details are expected tomorrow.

> Update: Broadcasting and Cable has the details. World News Now is not one of the programs switching to HD, not yet anyway.

ABC’s Comings … And Goings

On the same day we learned three longtime ABC News correspondents are out the door, ABC News president David Westin has announced three newcomers.

Jeremy Hubbard, T.J. Winick, and Linsey Davis are joining NewsOne, the service ABC News provides to affiliates. Says Westin: “Our affiliates across the country and around the globe will benefit from the extensive reporting experience that Jeremy, T.J., and Linsey bring to their new assignments.”
