The Ticker: ’20/20,’ ‘Meet the Press,’ Aereo

  • Friday’s “20/20″ delivered the second highest-ratings of the season in both the A25-54 (2.4/7) and A18-49 (1.8/6) demographics. The show featured David Muir‘s report on a worldwide manhunt by two different fathers searching for their sons.

  • During his appearance on “Meet the Press” yesterday, California Governor Jerry Brown cited a (way) past appearance on the NBC show to answer David Gregory‘s question about how he’s changed over his career in politics. “Well, I was just reviewing my transcript from ‘Meet the Press’ in 1975, and I find a lot of similarities,” he said. ” There I was talking about limits, I’m still talking about limits.  But I’m also talking about full employment and equality … So I’m older and wiser.”

  • With less than two months to go until the Supreme Court hears the Aereo case, the streaming TV service CEO and founder says Aereo is “confident in the merits of our position.” TVSpy has details.

Tom Brokaw to Moderate California Gubernatorial Debate

brokaw, tom.jpgNBC’s Tom Brokaw has been tapped to moderate an October 12 California gubernatorial debate between Democrat Jerry Brown and Republican Meg Whitman.

Asked by the San Francisco Chronicle about any concern over “an out-of-state moderator” who might not “[press] the candidates hard enough to fully answer questions that mattered most to Californians”, the semi-retired Brokaw replied:

Do you think that after all the years I was a White House correspondent, that I was the anchor of Nightly News, that I was the anchor of the Today show and that I filled in on Meet the Press for Tim [Russert] and then [was its interim host], that suddenly, since I’ve been living in Montana, that I’ve become a patsy of some kind?

That would have more legitimacy as an inquiry, I think, if I had been doing game shows. I haven’t. Tell your pals that they don’t have to worry.

After all, Brokaw joked, “I’m just an old guy out here working for a handout from time to time.”

Brokaw also told the Chronicle he’s working on his next book, but did not divulge the subject matter.
