Bill O’Reilly: Does Pres. Obama Hate ‘All Powerful’ Fox News?

O’Reilly Factor producer Jesse Watters is on Martha’s Vineyard covering Pres. Obama’s vacation. At a White House briefing yesterday, Watters asked Obama spokesman Bill Burton why the administration seemed to be “so thin-skinned with regards to Fox News?” Burton didn’t “accept the premise” of the question from Watters, an O’Reilly producer known for his ambush interviews.

Bill O’Reilly used the clip in his talking points memo last night, then brought Major Garrett into the conversation:

And O’Reilly wasn’t finished talking about the media. Later, he compared MSNBC to “the double A baseball team” the Toledo Mud Hens. He even had a poll (labeled NOT A SCIENTIFIC POLL) asking which news agency do you trust the least. You won’t be surprised by the results.

> Update: Before Keith Olbermann corrects O’Reilly on his show tonight, we’ll do it here. A TVNewser reader tells us the Mud Hens are actually a AAA team not double A.

Ambushing an Ambusher: Griff Jenkins Meets “Open Left”

Gawker still hasn’t tracked down Jesse Watters for an ambush interview, but Adam Green of Open Left found a different ambusher to ambush last night — Griff Jenkins. The result — an ambush-off. Check it out below (with FNC’s take after the jump). Also, Gawker promises: “John Cook is still hot on the tail of elusive O’Reilly Factor producer/creepy stalker Jesse Watters, so keep an eye out Jesse.”

Abortion Doctor Who Was Focus of O’Reilly Segments For Years is Shot Dead

Tiller_5.31.bmpA 51-year-old man is in custody accused in the shooting death of Dr. George Tiller, a Kansas doctor who performed late-term abortions and who found himself the focus of commentary by FNC’s Bill O’Reilly for the last several years.

Tiller was shot inside his church in Wichita at 10am this morning.

As recently as May 12, O’Reilly discussed Tiller and his support of Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. “She supported Tiller the baby killer out there,” he said to a guest, adopting a name critics had been using for years. (During her confirmation hearing last month, Sebelius said that between 1994 and 2001 she’d received more than $12,000 in campaign contributions from Dr. Tiller, a fact reported on several other Fox News programs as well, but not on CNN or MSNBC.)

But O’Reilly’s stories on Dr. Tiller go back to at least 2006. The show first began looking into whether Tiller performed illegal abortions and covered up child rape cases. In November, 2006 O’Reilly reported Tiller had performed late-term abortions to alleviate the pregnant woman’s “temporary depression.” A few weeks later O’Reilly Factor producer Jesse Watters traveled to Wichita and confronted Tiller’s attorney Pedro Irigonegary. Waters would write later, “He happened to be outside just as our van pulled in… and we sprang out with the cameras rolling.”

During the confrontation Irigonegary told Waters, “What’s important in this issue is not whether Mr. O’Reilly thinks that he is an expert on depression or not. What’s important is what medical people and a woman going through a difficult process decided what’s her best interest. I don’t care what Mr. O’Reilly thinks.”

TVNewser has learned O’Reilly will give his first public comment on Dr. Tiller’s murder tomorrow night on his show.

The Ambusher Becomes the Ambushee

Right now, there is a stake-out going on outside O’Reilly Factor ambush producer Jesse Watters‘ Long Island residence, orchestrated by Gawker. WebNewser has the details

POLL: What do you think of ambush interviews?

MSNBC, CNBC Hot Topic at GE Shareholder Meeting

THR’s Paul Bond reports things got “testy” at today’s GE shareholder meeting. When it came time for shareholders to question CEO Jeff Immelt many wanted to ask about MSNBC and CNBC.

First up was a woman asking about a reported meeting in which Immelt and NBC Uni CEO Jeff Zucker supposedly told top CNBC executives and talent to be less critical of President Obama and his policies. Immelt acknowledged a meeting took place but said no one at CNBC was told what to say or not say about politics.

One specific complaint about MSNBC concerned Keith Olbermann‘s interview of actress Janeane Garofalo, who likened conservatives to racists and spoke of “the limbic brain inside a right-winger.”

“They were upset that Olbermann didn’t bother to challenge her,” one GE shareholder said. Immelt said he takes a hands-off approach to what is reported on the company’s news networks, which prompted a shareholder to criticize him for not managing NBC Uni effectively.

And who else showed up at the meeting?

> Update: Audio of O’Reilly Factor producer Jesse Watters asking Immelt about Janeane Garofalo.

Anatomy of an Ambush

watters_3-23.jpgThe O’Reilly Factor is known for its ambushes, and producer Jesse Watters is usually the one doing the ambushing.

ThinkProgress.org’s Amanda Terkel writes about her personal experience this Saturday.

Terkel says she was on vacation a few hours from her D.C. home when Watters and another FNCer approached her and “immediately began asking me why I was causing ‘pain and suffering’ to the Alexa Foundation.”

Bill O’Reilly was the featured speaker at an Alexa Foundation (an organization that helps families of rape victims) benefit this weekend. Terkel wrote earlier this month about comments O’Reilly made about a rape victim in 2006 and 2007.

“O’Reilly never asked me for a statement nor invited me on his show before sending Watters to harass me,” writes Terkel. We hear the ambush will be discussed on tonight’s Factor.

Jessica Alba Thinks Bill O’Reilly is an “A-hole”

oreilly_1-21.bmpThere have been quite a few red carpet events in the last few days, and Fox News has been there to cover many of them.

At the January 18 Declare Yourself party in Washington, D.C., O’Reilly Factor producer Jesse Watters interviewed Jessica Alba. And she had some thoughts on Bill O’Reilly.

“He’s kind of an a-hole,” said Alba. “I don’t know how he does it, maybe he was born that way.”

Alba wouldn’t admit “that I actually watch Fox,” so O’Reilly had some advice for her, saying “Miss Alba is misguided and would benefit greatly if she actually did watch The Factor.”
