Kevin Magee Stepping Down From Fox

KevinMageeAfter 13 years with Fox, Kevin Magee is stepping down from his positions, TVNewser has learned.

Magee has been EVP of Fox Business Network since it launched nearly 7 years ago. He’s been EVP of Fox News Radio since 2005.

“It’s impossible to overstate how wonderful my stay here has been in every possible way, but mostly because I got to work with the most professional, hardest-working and smartest group of people in the business,” Magee writes in a note to staff, obtained by TVNewser.

The management structure of Fox Business is under review, we hear, and an announcement on the new team will be made in the coming weeks.

Magee joined Fox News Channel from CNBC in 2001. During his tenure, he also oversaw the 2-year run of the syndicated “The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet.”

“And then there’s Roger Ailes who allowed me incredible opportunities over the last 13+ years first at FOX News, and later at both FOX Business and Fox News Radio,” Magee writes. “He has been so understanding over the last few weeks as I discussed my plans for the future with him. Thank you, Roger.”

Before CNBC, Magee spent six years as senior program producer for “Good Morning America.” Magee is married to Liza McGuirk, an executive producer at CNN.

Christiane Amanpour Returns to CNN Monday

A tipster writes in, “We are seeing Amanpour everywhere around the TWC [Time Warner Center] getting ready for her show.”

And in fact CNN will announce this morning that Christiane Amanpour‘s new show will debut Monday at 3pmET. While Amanpour continues as ABC News Global Affairs anchor, the veteran CNN anchor and reporter returns Monday with her new 30-minute daily broadcast “Amanpour” on CNN International.

“We are delighted to have Christiane back at CNN,” said Tony Maddox, executive vice president and managing director for CNN International. “Christiane’s sophisticated, incisive journalism is needed now, more than ever to add context and depth to the world’s biggest news and stories,” Maddox said.

“This is an exciting time to have this unique role,” Amanpour said. “I am thrilled to come home to CNN, where I have reported for so many years – and combine this role with the reporting that I will continue for ABC News.” As we reported earlier, Liza McGuirk will EP the show.

Liza McGuirk named EP of CNNI’s ‘Amanpour’

As Christiane Amanpour plans a return to the CNN airwaves this spring, hosting an international newscast from New York, Liza McGuirk has been named her Executive Producer.

The half-hour “Amanpour” will air weekdays at 3pmET and replay at 5pm and will be seen in more than 200 countries on CNNI. The show will be the centerpiece of a new CNN International lineup, says Tony Maddox, EVP and managing director of CNNI.

As part of a deal announced in December, Amanpour continues her reporting for ABC News. “Christiane has proven herself time and time again to be the leading international journalist in television news and with Liza’s commitment to producing compelling television, ‘Amanpour’ will showcase the very best CNN has to offer,” says Maddox in a statement.

“Amanpour” joins existing CNNI programs, and a new newscast anchored by Isha Sesay.  European primetime will look like this (all times ET):

  • 1 pm International Desk
  • 2 pm Quest Means Business
  • 3 pm Amanpour
  • 3:30 p.m. Isha Sesay
  • 4 pm Connect the World with Becky Anderson
  • 5 pm Amanpour (encore)
  • 5:30 World Sport

Like Amanpour, McGuirk is a CNN original, joining the network in 1980. In 1989 McGuirk moved to CBS News where she spent eight years. She returned to CNN and launched “Fareed Zakaria: GPS” and “Parker-Spitzer.” McGuirk is married to Kevin Magee who is the EVP of Fox Business Network.

Google’s Eric Schmidt: Cable News Host?

Well this came from out of nowhere. The New York Post reports that former Google CEO Eric Schmidt wants his own TV show, and has consulted with “Parker Spitzer” executive producer Liza McGuirk about the possibility. Schmidt supposedly filmed a pilot for CNN last August.

“Eric Schmidt has been looking for a TV job for over a year,” said a CNN insider. “But the pilot he filmed with Liza was a complete disaster.”

Kathleen Parker Mad at Producers?

Co-host of the new CNN show “Parker Spitzer” Kathleen Parker is sick of being ignored due to the popularity and infamy of her co-host  Eliot Spitzer, according to The New York Post.

Parker was said to have stormed off the set during a pre-taping a few weeks ago over favoritism by show EP Liza McGuirk. The Pulitzer Prize-winning Parker did return to finish the show.

“CNN is standing by the show,” network spokeswoman Barbara Levin told The New York Post. “Liza’s a terrific producer, and any suggestion that she’s on her way out is patently false.”

“We love Kathleen too,” Levin said.

> Update: Press release after the jump. McGuirk, “After working with Fareed Zakaria, I’m delighted to be working with two people, Eliot and Kathleen, who are truly his equals at exploring the world of intelligent ideas.
