For Meredith Vieira – If It’s Monday, It’s Washington

Last week, the Today show’s Meredith Viera was in Los Angeles sitting down with Susan Boyle (airing Wednesday), today Vieira was in Washington sitting down with Pres. Obama (airing tomorrow) and by next Monday she’ll be sitting in a canoe in Lake George, NY as part of “Today Takes a Vacation.”

But wait. There’s more. Vieira also talked with Ryan O’Neal this morning for his first interview since the death of Farrah Fawcett. That interview also airs tomorrow.

As for the vacation series, the “Today” anchors are heading to four destinations across the country.

• On Monday, Vieira and Ann Curry will be at the Sagamore Resort in Lake George.
• Tuesday, Matt Lauer and Al Roker head to the southernmost point in the United States, Key West.
• Wednesday, Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb will be live in San Antonio.
• On Friday Natalie Morales and Amy Robach broadcast live from Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.

Finally, Meredith Vieira’s Susan Boyle Sit-Down

Meredith_7.17.JPGSix weeks after she thought she would be getting a sit-down with Susan Boyle, NBC’s Meredith Vieira finally corralled the Scottish singer yesterday.

The interview will air Wednesday morning on “Today” with an extended version airing, of course, Wednesday night on “America’s Got Talent.”

Boyle crossed the pond via YouTube in the hours after she wowed the crowd on the British talent show in April. A few days later she was singing on CBS’ The Early Show. Boyle’s success also led the Early Show to add judge Amanda Holden to their coverage of the final days of the competition.

But as the media spotlight turned red hot, Boyle began to crack, ultimately finishing second in the competition. She’ll tell Vieira about her journey to international fame, how she’s feeling now and what’s next.

Vieira anchored “Today” from London June 1, the Monday following the “Britain’s Got Talent” finale and was supposed to get an exclusive with Boyle. Instead, Vieira interviewed the winners, the dance group “Diversity.”

CBS’ Shalev Talks “Chipping Away at That Gap” on the Menu

shalev_6-10.jpgToday on the mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu we’re joined by CBS The Early Show EP Zev Shalev.

We talk about what’s coming up this summer, including a summer concert series on the USS Intrepid that begins Friday with a performance by Lionel Richie and Akon. Also: some big recent interviews. “It’s about creating the right kind of environment,” he said. “We have a team here that is so keen and dedicated to finding those kinds of stories that are going to get people talking so when our team first spotted Susan Boyle, or when the ‘Father Oprah’ story first came up, the trick is just getting on it first.”

But how does we make a push to turn the 3rd place network morning show into a contender? “When we look at that gap it’s shrinking significantly, and really that’s the only way to look at it,” he said. “It’s not going to be one of those things where you can turn it around in one day, but over a period of time, you can start chipping away at that gap.”

Also discussed: big ratings for CBS’ awards shows, big revenue for Craigslist and why “the traditional news network is still the place you can get real journalism.”

Meredith Vieira’s Slightly Revised Trip to London

vieira_6-1.jpgIt was a “special split edition of Today” this morning, according to Meredith Vieira, who anchored from London.

Why?

Well according to the NBC release sent yesterday: “On Monday, June 1 on “Today,” Meredith Vieira will talk exclusively to Susan Boyle live from London about her second place finish on Britain’s Got Talent.”

Needless to say that interview didn’t happen, as Boyle, who placed second despite being favored to win, checked into a mental health clinic last night. Instead, Vieira interviewed judge Piers Morgan during the 7am hour, and sat down with the show’s winners, the dance group Diversity, in the 8am hour.

Meanwhile on CBS, another of the show’s judges, Amanda Holden, co-hosted The Early Show this morning. Click continued to see her discuss Boyle’s condition. Holden also yodeled.

Confirmed: Amanda Holden to Guest Host The Early Show

Holden_5.29.jpgFirst reported last month, “Britain’s Got Talent” judge Amanda Holden is now confirmed to guest host The Early Show on Monday alongside Harry Smith, Maggie Rodriguez and Julie Chen.

In a press release, CBS says Holden “will give viewers a first-hand account of Susan Boyle‘s weekend performance on the finale of the talent show. Boyle’s original voice coach will also be live on the program to share his thoughts about the Scottish singer’s much-anticipated performance.”

The Susan Boyle Effect – Talent Show Judge Joins The Early Show

Holden_4.23.jpgMost Americans didn’t know who Amanda Holden was before last week. The “Britain’s Got Talent” judge crossed the pond, first on YouTube then onto the networks thanks to contestant Susan Boyle.

Well, CBS News apparently liked what they saw in Holden. TVNewser has learned Holden will be a part of The Early Show in early June.

The UK’s Mirror reports, “Network executives [have been] blown away by Amanda’s cut-glass British accent and warm personality.”

A source inside CBS tells TVNewser Holden has been invited to co-host the 8am hour of the show on Monday, June 1 which is the first weekday after the “Britain’s Got Talent” finale.

Holden was at the center of a CBS Evening News story Saturday when a new recording revealed Boyle’s not likely a one hit wonder.
