“Too Few People Subscribed” To Pipeline

Why is CNN Pipeline being replaced by free videos on CNN.com? David Payne explains in this blog post and confirms that “too few people subscribed:”

“As popular as the service was, it became clear to us that reaching true scale was going to be impossible if the product remained a pay service. Remember that our entire mission is about getting more news to more people on more platforms… and too few people actually subscribed for us to meet that goal.”

Payne says CNN also realized that the new “Integrated Story” page was “a better experience than even the Pipeline player for videos.”

The new CNN.com premieres on July 1. (Via Lost Remote)
