Will Bob Schieffer Succeed At Reining in the Candidates?
The Boston Herald’s Jessica Heslam writes about Wednesday’s final presidential debate moderated by CBS’s Bob Schieffer. Heslam talked with former ABC News correspondent Bob Zelnick, now a BU journalism professor. Zelnick thinks Jim Lehrer, Gwen Ifill and Tom Brokaw lost control during their turns at moderating the candidate debates.
Zelnick’s advice for Schieffer? “I would hold them to specific questions and answers that dealt with the question. If they were consciously and deliberately straying, I would interrupt them and say, ‘But the question was so and so. Can you answer that?’”
