After 32 Years at WRC, Anchor Joe Krebs to Retire

Longtime WRC anchor and reporter Joe Krebs announced today that he will retire on March 30, after 32 years at the D.C. station.

“I really feel like I’ve been living my dream for almost 42 years, including the last 32 years here at Channel 4. Being a news broadcaster is what I always wanted to be,” Krebs said, announcing his retirement.  “Now, I want to travel with my wife and spend more time with my kids and grandchild–soon to be grandchildren–and, quite frankly, just do whatever darn well I want to do.”

Krebs has spent the last 18 years anchoring WRC’s morning newscast, and the station has tapped Aaron Gilchrist as his a.m. successor.  Gilchrist will join Eun Yang at the morning anchor desk beginning April 2.

“Morning news viewers have clear expectations about getting the information they need to start the day,” said Gilchrist, who currently works as a weekend anchor and reporter for the station. “I hope to meet the challenge and also put smiles on their faces before they head out to face the world.”

Krebs joined WRC in 1980 after working at WBAL in Baltimore.

“For 32 years, Joe Krebs has been such an important member of the News4 team,” said Camille Edwards, WRC’s vice president of news.  “His warm and calm demeanor has helped our viewers wake up informed and ready for the day ahead. We can’t thank Joe enough for his hard work and commitment to our team.”

WRC plans to do a special week-long tribute to Krebs during his final days with the station.
