John-Carlos Estrada Named Anchor and Managing Editor at KTRE

JOHN-CARLOS-ESTRADAKTRE, the ABC affiliate in Lufkin, Texas, has named John-Carlos Estrada evening anchor and managing editor. Estrada will anchor the 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. newscasts.

“When I met with the team at KTRE I knew it was a perfect next move. It’s a bigger staff and produces great newscasts. And an added bonus… I get to be closer to my family in Dallas,” Estrada told TVSpy.

“My jump to a larger market after a year on the anchor desk is exciting,” he added. “It’s was a great opportunity that KTRE news director Kenny Boles offered and I felt like it was time to make a change.”

Estrada previously worked at ABC affiliate KAVU in Victoria, Texas, where he was the lead anchor at 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. He has also worked on the national level as a segment producer for “The Cycle” on MSNBC and “Weekend Today” on NBC.

Estrada started his new position yesterday.

John Estrada Named Anchor at KAVU

estrada_kavuJohn Estrada has joined KAVU, the ABC affiliate for Victoria, TX, as evening anchor.

Estrada tweeted after his first newscast last night, “I’m so excited to be here & get to know u in the #Victoria community!”

Before working at KAVU, Estrada was a producer for “The Cycle” on MSNBC and “Weekend Today” on NBC.

KXTS Swaps MyNetworkTV for CBS in Victoria, TX

KXTS, which is the MyNetworkTV affiliate in Victoria, TX, has signed an affiliation agreement with CBS that will take effect September 12.

CBS currently has no affiliation in the Victoria market, which is DMA #204. KXTS is owned by Saga Broadcasting, which also owns ABC, NBC, Telemundo and Univision outlets in the market.

“As the first CBS station to serve the viewers of Victoria, it’s a welcome opportunity to make CBS a vital part of the community and to continue growing our successful relationship with Saga Communications,” said CBS affiliate relations president Diana Wilkin.

Saga and CBS have partnerships in two other markets — KOAM in Joplin, MO and WXVT in Greenville, MS. “We’re excited to bring the quality entertainment, news and sports programming of America’s Most Watched Network to our audiences and advertisers in Victoria,” Saga CEO Ed Christian said in a statement.
