Chris Lawrence Joins WRC From CNN

chris lawrenceChris Lawrence is joining WRC, the NBC owned station in Washington, D.C., as the weekend evening anchor.

Lawrence joins WRC from CNN, where he has worked since 2004, most recently as a Pentagon correspondent. During his 10 years at CNN, he has also worked in the network’s Los Angeles and Chicago bureaus.

“Chris has proven himself to be a first-class journalist. We believe his background and experience make him a perfect fit with the NBC4 team,” WRC vice president of news Mike Goldrick said in a statement.

Before CNN, Lawrence worked at WXYZ in Detroit, WTVH in Syracuse and WDBB in Tuscaloosa. More from WRC after the jump.

CHRIS LAWRENCE JOINS NBC4 WASHINGTON / WRC

Veteran journalist Chris Lawrence will join NBC4 Washington / WRC on January 20, announced Michael Goldrick, Vice President of News for NBC4.  Lawrence will be anchoring the weekend versions of News4 at 6 and News4 at 11 and also contribute to other newscasts during the week.

“Chris has proven himself to be a first-class journalist,” Goldrick said.  “We believe his background and experience make him a perfect fit with the NBC4 team. We’re excited to introduce our viewers and Chris to one another.”

For the last ten years, Lawrence has been an aggressive reporter and gifted storyteller at CNN, earning awards and traveling around the world to cover big stories.  In his most recent role as Pentagon Correspondent, he has reported on crises in countries such as Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Haiti and Israel.  He has also spent time in the network’s bureaus in Los Angeles and Chicago, covering news events including Hurricane Katrina, and the BP Oil Spill.

Lawrence has extensive experience covering local news as well, including stints at WXYZ-TV in Detroit, WTVH-TV in Syracuse and WDBB-TV in Tuscaloosa.  He has spent time as an anchor, a general assignment reporter and a consumer/investigative reporter.  Lawrence also served as a correspondent for CBS Newspath where he covered national and international news for local CBS stations around the country.

Lawrence attended the University of Maryland at College Park and lives with his family in Alexandria, VA.
