Former WISH Reporter Brad Edwards: ‘My Dismissal Is As Mundane As Money’

Brad Edwards is speaking out on his recent dismissal from Indianapolis CBS-affiliate WISH, saying he was “fired up to serve elsewhere.”

Edwards, who told TVSpy there are many details he won’t reveal “because there are many at an ever-leaner WISH TV I hold dear,” was fired halfway through his three-year contract because his high salary put “too much pressure” on the station’s budget, WISH insiders say.

“My dismissal is as mundane as money,” Edwards said.

Edwards, an award-winning investigative reporter at WISH, was aware of the risk his high salary posed and asked station management if he could interview elsewhere, WISH sources say. He was told he was “safe.”

Edwards told TVSpy that news director Patti McGettigan, who he called “my good friend,” fired him Wednesday morning as “tears clogged her throat.”

“My most recent job review said: ‘Brad’s work exemplifies … against any odds Brad makes content come to life daily … he cares about the human condition … he’s a terrific newsroom citizen,’” Edwards said.

Morning anchor Joy Dumandan was also told yesterday that her contract would not be renewed, NewsBlues reports.

McGettigan has not responded to repeated requests for comment.
