John McLoughlin Leaving WTEN After 39 Years

Political reporter John McLoughlin is leaving WTEN after nearly four decades with the Albany ABC-affiliate.

McLoughlin joined WTEN in 1972 as a part-time political commentator and went on to become an important voice in New York’s capital city.¬† Covering governors from Nelson Rockefeller to Andrew Cuomo, McLoughlin loved his job and became known for his hard work and bluntness.

“How can a little fat guy like me get to do that sort of thing, a front-row seat, it’s fantastic and they pay you a little bit of money to do it,” McLoughlin told the Albany Times Union about his career covering New York politics.

McLoughlin, 68, still plans to cover politics, just not with WTEN.

“I still plan to work someplace, probably part time,” he informed the Times Union. “It’s as simple as that.”
