KGO to add 4pm News after Oprah says goodbye

San Francisco ABC O&O KGO is the latest station to add a 4pm local newscast after Oprah Winfrey gives her final farewell to daytime TV next Wednesday.

On Thursday, ABC7 News at 4pm will launch with co-anchors Carolyn Johnson and Larry Beil.

“The launch of ABC7 News at 4pm furthers our goal of providing Bay Area viewers multiple, convenient options for getting the latest news and information,” says news director Kevin Keeshan. KGO joins WABC in New York, WSB in Atlanta and others, producing local news instead of another syndicated show in the Oprah timeslot.

In the days ahead of Oprah’s sign-off, several ABC O&Os will air a special, “Oprah Looks Back; 25 Years of the Oprah Winfrey Show.” It’s hosted by KGO’s Carolyn Johnson and includes an interview with Oprah done by WLS anchor Cheryl Burton.
