KSAT, WFAA Reflect on Death of Former Colleague, Reporter Bert Lozano

KSAT in San Antonio and WFAA in Dallas are sharing memories of their respective former colleague, reporter Bert Lozano, who died Wednesday after suffering an apparent heart attack over the weekend. He was 42.

Lozano was most recently a reporter at WFAA, from 2004 to 2007. “While he was a very dedicated journalist, to us it’s his sense of humor and friendship we’ll remember most,” WFAA reported (watch the video tribute — which includes a light-hearted look at Lozano’s most famous on-air moment, involving a streaker — above). “The smile … his laugh.”

Lozano joined WFAA after five years at KSAT. Colleagues there remember him as “a talented man who was taken too soon,” KSAT anchor Steve Spriester told the San Antonio Express-News. “When you work with someone in this tense business, you create a bond: Once a part of KSAT, always a part of KSAT.”

“Bert was a well-respected and much-loved journalist during his time at KSAT 12,” vice president of KSAT news Jim Boyle said in a statement. “His professionalism, warmth and personality made him a favorite among viewers and staffers alike.”
