KOAA Morning Anchor Leaving Station

atchison koaaThe Gazette reports KOAA morning anchor Adam Atchison is leaving the Colorado Springs NBC affiliate.

“As we approach the holiday season, I’m looking forward to an exciting move,” Atchison posted on his facebook page. “I recently accepted a new job in Albuquerque, N.M., and my family and I are moving there just after Thanksgiving.”

Atchison has worked at KOAA since June 2007. He’s also worked at KTVB in Boise, Idaho.

Former Miss Colorado Named AM Anchor at KOAA

cockrell koaaColorado Springs NBC affiliate KOAA has named Shellene Cockrell morning anchor.

The Gazette reports, Cockrell, who was Miss Colorado in 1994, will join Adam Atchison, Stephen Bowers and Joanna Wise on the morning anchor desk after Labor Day.

“Shellene’s diverse background includes news anchoring and reporting, college basketball play-by-play (both men’s and women’s), and leadership and media coaching,” KOAA news director Kelly Duffy told The Gazette. “She’s a multifaceted journalist with three Emmys under her belt.”

According to her LinkedIn page, Cockrell has been freelancing as a host and anchor since 2005. She has also worked at KWGN and news radio station KOA in Denver.

Marissa Torres Joins KOAA as Morning Anchor

Marissa Torres is joining Colorado Springs NBC-affiliate KOAA, where she will co-anchor the morning newscast.

She replaces Jennifer Horbelt, who is moving into the evening anchor role at KOAA. Torres’ first day on the air alongside Adam Atchison and meteorologist Craig Eliot will be July 30.

Torres joins the station from KOB in Albuquerque, where she was a reporter and fill-in anchor. “I am honored to be coming to KOAA and to Southern Colorado,” she said in a statement. “And yes, I really am a morning person!”
