Colorado Stations Raise Money for Flood Victims

KUSA_donatinColorado radio and television outlets came together to raise over $1.1 million for victims of the recent Colorado floods.

On Wednesday, Rocky Mountain PBS station KRMA provided its studios for a Red Cross donation call center and live shots for local stations who also ran tickers on the bottom of their screens during the fundraiser to drive viewers to donate.

“It never ceases to amaze me the generous spirit of the Colorado people and its times like these that our western heritage really comes through – and we metaphorically circle the wagons,” Gino Greco, CEO of the American Red Cross of Colorado said in a statement.

Justin Sasso, president and CEO of the Colorado Broadcasters Association added, “Before the flood waters had fully receded broadcasters teamed together again and used the power of live, local radio and television to drive a fundraiser, yielding an unprecedented donation total, well beyond our expectations. You can bet that broadcasters will be there as these communities rebuild and get back to business as usual.  The level at which broadcasters connect with their audience is unparalleled.”

Local Stations Pitch in For Hurricane Sandy Relief

In the wake of the devastation left by Hurricane Sandy local TV stations, station groups and networks are pitching in to help out those affected.  Here’s the roundup of who is doing what so far:

TODAY:

>WPVI, Philadelphia’s ABC O&O will air “Helping Our Neighbors: Surviving Sandy”, a live telethon from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for those who would like to donate to the American Red Cross disaster relief fund.

According to TVNewser, “In addition to American Red Cross volunteers, special guests will be stopping by to lend their support to the telethon. The long list of guests includes Mayor Michael Nutter, Pat Croce, Vince Papale, Top Chef Kevin Sbraga, celebrity chef Michael Schulson, radio personality Nicole Michalik, Temple Basketball Coach Fran Dunphy, Flyers Head Coach Peter Laviolette, several of the Sixers star players, WMMR-FM’s Pierre Robert, Olympic Gold Medalist Carli Lloyd and many more familiar faces.”
