WWL Adds Weekend, Evening Newscasts

wwl logoWWL-WUPL, Gannett’s duopoly in New Orleans, is adding evening and weekend newscasts next month. WWL will debut weekend morning newscasts anchored by Antwan Harris on August 9, and WUPL will debut weeknight newscasts anchored by Natalie Shepherd and Thanh Truong on September 9.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune has more:

“I think people want to know the overnight news,” said Bill Siegel, WWL’s news director. “They certainly want up-to-the-minute weather. Given weekend plans and how much time everybody spends outside here, that’s really important.

“We also have the opportunity to do some different things on Saturday and Sunday, a deeper dive on cultural things and festivals. There’s a lot of opportunity there.”

Antwan Harris to Join WWL in New Orleans

harris_wrcbAntwan Harris, reporter and weekend anchor for NBC affiliate WRCB in Chattanooga, TN, is heading to New Orleans to work for CBS affiliate WWL.

WWL executive news director Bill Siegel told TVSpy Harris starts next week as a general assignment reporter.

Before coming to WRCB in 2009, Harris worked at WMGT in Macon, GA.

After 10 Years, Amy Morrow Will Leave WRCB

After 10 years at WRCB, veteran evening anchor Amy Morrow announced she will leave the Chattanooga NBC affiliate on July 22.

Morrow, who anchors the 11 p.m. news with Greg Glover, has worked with the station as an anchor-reporter since 2001. Prior to joining WRCB, Murrow worked at WDNN, a cable station in Dalton, GA, and at WTVA, the NBC affiliate in Tupelo. The Tennessee native says she has no plans to leave the Chattanooga area.

Morrow will be replaced at 11 p.m. by weekend anchor Callie Starnes. The station has named Antwan Harris, who has been a reporter for WRCB for two years, to weekend anchor as Starnes’ replacement.
