OTA Broadcasting to Buy Two Palm Springs Stations

kmir_kspe_304OTA Broadcasting is buying Palm Springs, CA, stations KMIR and KPSE.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

According to TVNewscheck, “OTA Broadcasting, backed by billionaire computer retailer Michael Dell, has been buying up independent stations with an eye toward selling the spectrum back to the government in the FCC’s planned incentive auction.”

“From what we understand, Michael is a very forward-looking guy,” Craig Marrs, general manager for the Palm Springs NBC and MyNetworkTV affiliates told MyDesert.com. “The company is made up of people who are interested in the next generation of digital products yet at the same time are excited about acquiring the operation here in Palm Springs.” Read more

David Reese Named News Director at KMIR

David Reese has been named news director at KMIR-KPSE, Journal Broadcast’s NBC and MyNetworkTV affiliates in Palm Springs, Calif.

Reese joins KMIR after 15 years at KNBC in Los Angeles, where he began as the nightside desk manager. Most recently, he was the assignment manager. Before joining KNBC, Reese worked as a freelance assignment editor and field producer for KCBS in Los Angeles and the CBS News Los Angeles bureau.

“David’s many years of experience as a southern California news executive will help take the news on KMIR / KPSE to the next level. We are extremely pleased he has agreed to join our team as we work together to make the Coachella Valley a better place to live,” KMIR General Manager Craig Marrs said in a statement.

KTEN Hires KXII News Director as GM

Veteran news director Anthony Maisel has been named general manager of KTEN, the NBC-affiliate serving the Sherman, TX-Ada, OK market.

Maisel comes to the Lockwood Broadcast Group-owned station from market rival KXII, where he served as news director.  Prior to KXII, Maisel spent nine years leading the news department at KDAF in Dallas.

“Anthony has been an inspiring and innovative leader throughout his career,” said Gerald Walsh, vice president of Lockwood Broadcast Group.  “His passion for delivering the best news product on all platforms, elevating our community involvement, and leading the station and its clients to sales success is exciting and contagious.” Read more

Craig Marrs Named GM at Palm Springs’ KMIR-KPSE

Craig Marrs has been named vice president and general manager at KMIR-KPSE, Journal Broadcast Group’s Palm Springs duopoly.

Marss joins KMIR-KPSE from KTEN, the NBC-affiliate in Sherman, TX, where he has been general manager since 2009.

“He’s passionate about the media business, arrives with a wealth of experience in our business and is focused on great content and customer service,” Journal Broadcast Group’s EVP of television and radio operations Jim Prather said in a statement.

Marrs replaces Jim Thomas, who has been interim vice president and general manager since Raul Rodriguez left for Univision San Francisco in December.
