KTXA Scraps Local Sports Show

the fan sports showKTXA, the CBS-owned independent station in Dallas, has canceled “The Fan Sports Show,” Dallas media blogger Ed Bark reports. Beginning next week, the station will shift “Inside Edition” to 6:30 p.m. and will air classic Western shows, such as reruns of “Gunsmoke” and “Bonanza,” from 7 to 8 p.m.

“It will create a fun summertime escape for fans of these classic shows,” KTVT-KTXA general manager Gary Schneider told Bark. “And we’ll be introducing them to other viewers for the first time. This is truly timeless television.”

“The Fan Sports Show” is anchored by Bill Jones, with Jane Slater as the regular fill-in. Both of them will remain with KTVT-KTXA, according to Bark.

Earlier this week, KTVT-KTXA sportscaster Steve Dennis parted ways with the stations after being told they were cutting back on sports.

Steve Dennis out at KTVT, Told Station ‘Cutting Back on Sports’

dennis ktvtThe Dallas Morning News reports KTVT and KTXA sports reporter Steve Dennis is out at the Dallas CBS owned stations.

The Morning News said management at the station told Dennis Thursday he was “no longer needed” after 16 years.

“I’m looking for work,” Dennis said Friday. “The Cowboys season is bearing down on us and I have to be there.”

Dennis, 53, said station management told him, “We love you but we are doing away with your position.”

Gary Schneider, general manager at channels 11 and 21, confirmed, “there was no issue with his performance.”

Schneider said the stations would be cutting back on sports programming, particularly at Channel 21.

Guy Rawlings Joins KTVT in Dallas

guy rawlingsGuy Rawlings will join KTVT, the CBS O&O in Dallas, as a sports anchor and reporter, Houston media blogger Mike McGuff reports. He begins Monday,  November 25.

“Guy’s passion for sports is evident in everything he does,” KTVT president and general manager Gary Schneider said in a statement. “He will be a great fit with our already strong sports team.”

Rawlings left WGCL in Atlanta, where he anchored the 5 and 11 p.m. newscasts, earlier this month. A spokesperson told TVSpy that the station had exercised the early out option in his contract. Before WGCL, he worked at WESH in Orlando and at stations in Baltimore, Charleston and Jacksonville, according to KTVT’s release.

KTVT Operations to Move Into ‘CBS Tower’

KTVT, the CBS owned station for Dallas-Fort Worth, will move its newsroom and advertising sales offices into a new home that will be called “CBS Tower” on Monday.

“We’re extremely pleased with our new space and the visibility this will provide our stations,” said KTVT and KTXA (Ind.) president and general manager Gary Schneider. “In addition, the tower’s proximity to both Central Expressway and LBJ Freeway is key for our Dallas operation.”

The new headquarters will be on the top floor of a 13 story building which will get new signage in the next few weeks.

The station’s primary studios, technical and business operations will stay in Fort Worth.

KTVT Hires Whitney Drolen, Promotes Teresa Frosini

Starting next month, traffic anchor Teresa Frosini (left) will shift into a reporting role at KTVT in Dallas, the CBS O&O announced today. She will be replaced by Whitney Drolen (right) who joins KTVT from KCBS-KCAL in Los Angeles.

“Teresa and Whitney are both talented professionals, and we’re glad to have both of them on our news team,” KTVT general manager Gary Schneider said in a statement.

Frosini has been KTVT’s traffic anchor since 2006. In her new role, she will report on arts and entertainment, as well as special reports. “North Texas is a rich tapestry of art, entertainment and culture, and I look forward to bringing our viewers those stories,” she said. Read more

Brendan Higgins Joins KTVT as Morning Anchor

Brendan Higgins is joining KTVT, the CBS O&O in Dallas, as a morning anchor.

Higgins will be paired with Adrienne Bankert from 4:30 to 7 a.m. beginning June 25. He most recently worked at rival KXAS, where he was the early morning anchor from 2004-10.

“Brendan is well-known and well-liked by local viewers,” KTVT president and general manager Gary Schneider said in a statement. “We believe he and Adrienne will make a strong connection with morning news viewers based on their knowledge, experience and warm personalities.”

Keith Garvin, the current early-morning anchor, will remain with KTVT as a reporter and fill-in anchor, according to Dallas media blogger Ed Bark.

Adrienne Bankert Named Morning Anchor at KTVT

Adrienne Bankert is joining KTVT as co-anchor of the weekday morning newscast, the Dallas CBS O&O announced today.

Bankert joins KTVT after eight years at KCRA-KQCA in Sacramento, where she anchored the morning and noon newscasts and hosted “Common Ground,” a monthly newsmagazine. She begins at KTVT on June 25.

“Adrienne is intelligent and engaging,” KTVT president and general manager Gary Schneider said in a statement. “I think our viewers will enjoy her personality and appreciate her genuine interest in the community.”

A station spokesperson tells TVSpy that Bankert will replace Lisa Pineiro, who has anchored the morning newscast since 2010.
