On the Move, 4/18/14

James Koh joins the NFL Network as a host and reporter. Koh previously served as a weekend sportscaster, created and hosted “Cage Talk,” a UFC show and reported news for KTTV in Los Angeles.

Nannette Miranda joins KNTV in San Francisco as a freelance general assignment reporter. Previously, she worked as the California State Capital reporter for KGO, KABC and KFSN, the three ABC-owned stations in California.

Nancy Chen has been promoted to weekend morning anchor for WHDH in Boston.

Jennifer Mayerle Set to Join WCCO

jennifer mayerleJennifer Mayerle is joining WCCO, the CBS owned station in Minneapolis, Access Atlanta reports. Mayerle makes the move after eight years at WGCL, the CBS affiliate in Atlanta.

Mayerle, who will be a reporter at WCCO,  wrote on Facebook: “It’s the station where I had my first internship, the station I grew up watching, and the station I wanted to work at if I ever decided to live and work in Minneapolis. While bittersweet, I couldn’t be more excited to be joining such a great team.”

Mayerle will sign off in April, according to Access Atlanta. Before WGCL, she worked at WKRG in Mobile, Ala. and KWES in Midland, Texas.

Atlanta Stations Cover Davis Execution from Jackson

All four major Atlanta news stations had crews in Jackson on Wednesday to cover the execution of Troy Davis, which occurred shortly after 11:00 p.m. following a last-minute postponement and a day of protest.

NBC-affiliate WXIA had two reporters in Jackson, covering both the execution and the interplay between protestors and police officers.  Matt Pearl was joined by Devin Feely, who described a “massive police presence.”

At the top of WGCL‘s 11 p.m. newscast, the CBS-affiliate read a sampling of how viewers were reacting to the execution on Facebook.  Reporter Jennifer Mayerle was in Jackson. Read more

Emmy Rundown: Southeast Region

The Southeast chapter of NATAS handed out Emmys over the weekend at a ceremony in Atlanta, honoring news and programming excellence for stations in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Asheville, NC.

Atlanta NBC-affiliate WXIA took home 11 Emmys and was honored multiple times in the News Programming Excellence category for Markets 1-25. Atlanta stations WSB, WGCL, and WAGA also received awards in the category.

Standing out in the smaller market field (75+) was Savannah’s WTOC, which was honored twice alongside Jackson’s WAPT and Columbia’s WIS.
