WLNY Cancels Morning Newscast

WLNY the couchWLNY, the CBS-owned independent station serving the New York City market, has canceled its morning newscast, TVSpy has learned. WLNY operates as a duopoly with WCBS, CBS’ flagship station in the NYC DMA.

The newscast, called “The Couch,” is anchored by John Elliott, Jill Nicolini and Carolina Bermudez. It was added to WLNY’s programming lineup in 2012.

TVSpy hears Bermudez is parting ways with WLNY. Elliott and Nicolini will remain with the station and continue to appear on WCBS.

A small number of jobs will be eliminated as a result of the show’s cancellation.

A station spokesperson declined to comment.

NYC Stations Cover New York Giants’ Victory Parade

New York City stations devoted all resources this morning to coverage of the celebration parade for the New York Giants, who returned home yesterday after a big win in Sunday’s Super Bowl XLVI.

Rob Powers and Lori Stokes anchored WABC‘s coverage from City Hall. The pair were joined by 10 reporters along the parade route for “up-to-the-second excitement of this great parade,” Powers said.

WNYW-WWOR‘s coverage kicked off at 1o a.m. with Dari Alexander, Ernie Anastos and sports director Russ Salzberg anchoring outside City Hall. Steve Lacy, Jill Nicolini and John Huddy were along the parade route. Read more

Jill Nicolini Makes Her First WNYW Appearance

FishbowlNY has a wrap-up of Jill Nicolini‘s first appearance on Fox owned-and-operated WNYW, on this morning’s 8 a.m. newscast.

“Do not adjust your sets,” Rosanna Scotto said jokingly. “You’re not seeing things. We’re not melding stations.”

Nicolini, who until last month was a traffic and entertainment reporter at rival station WPIX, the CW-afilliate in New York City, admitted she has “always watched” WNYW.

Nicolini answered questions about her hobbies, her cats, her musical taste and her relationship status. Read more at FishbowlNY.

Reporter Jill Nicolini Jumps From WPIX to WNYW

Jill Nicolini has left WPIX for WNYW.

The popular reporter, who was recently named one of the Hottest TV Traffic Reporters in the country, turned down an offer from the CW-affiliate to join the Fox O&O–a career move that she expects to lead to opportunities beyond traffic.

“We made her a very competitive offer and asked her to stay,” WPIX news director Bill Carey told FishbowlNY. “She’s leaving because she sees a path and opportunity to do more with her career beyond local news. This is the next step that will help her with that.”

Insiders tell FishbowlNY that she will not work as a traffic reporter with WNYW. Read more
