WAVY, the NBC affiliate for Hampton Roads, VA, has announced changes to its weekday evening anchor lineup.

Nicole Livas (pictured left) joins Tom Schaad for the 6:00 p.m. and and 11:00 p.m. news, filling the co-anchor chair left vacant by the retirement of Alveta Ewell in February.  Livas and Schaad will continue to anchor the 5:00 p.m. news on WAVY and the 10:00 p.m. news on FOX affiliate WVBT.

“Our new anchor lineup continues our commitment to bringing high quality journalism to our audience every day,” said WAVY news director Jim Gilchriest in a statement. “Nicole, Tom, Stephanie, and Anita, as well as Chief Meteorologist Don Slater and Sports Director Bruce Rader anchor an experienced team of journalists in the WAVY newsroom who are dedicated to finding and presenting important, relevant, and compelling news and information that Hampton Roads viewers have come to expect from 10 On Your Side.” Read more

KTVB announced that executive news producer Kate Morris has been promoted to the executive news director position recently vacated by Jim Gilchriest at the Boise NBC affiliate.

Morris has been KTVB’s executive news producer since 2008, overseeing the station’s coverage of breaking news and special broadcasts. In her new position, she will be responsible for daily station management and coordination of reporters, staffers and producers.

Morris, an Idaho native, got her start as a producer KSAZ in Phoenix. She has won three Edward R. Murrow awards in her tenure at KTVB.

Gilchriest left KTVB this month to join LIN media duopoly WAVY-WVBT as news director.

Jim Gilchriest Set to Become News Director of WAVY-WVBT

Jim Gilchriest, who has served as news director for Belo’s KTVB since 2007, is set to join WAVY-WVBT, a LIN Media duopoly serving the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.

A WAVY-WVBT official confirmed the move to TVSpy, saying that there would be an official announcement in mid-July when Gilchriest joins the station.

During his time in Boise, Gilchriest led KTVB to several top honors, including a national Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence in 2010.
