KVOA’s chief meteorologist Jimmy Stewart announced on Monday that he will retire later this year.

Stewart, 69, has been with KVOA since 1990.  He joined the Tucson NBC-affiliate after nine years with crosstown rival KOLD.

“Even though forecasting the weather might have been more challenging in some other part of the country, I feel very fortunate to have been able to spend my entire television career in Tucson,” Stewart said, in making the announcement.

Stewart’s final day will be May 25th.

“Jimmy has been an invaluable member of our team and will be sorely missed by those of us who have had the pleasure to work with him,” said Bill Shaw, KVOA’s president and general manager.

KVOA plans to continue its relationship with Stewart after his retirement.  The station said that it will soon announce what Stewart’s future role will be. Read more
