Meteorologist John Gerard Joins WFOR

john gerardMeteorologist John Gerard is joining WFOR, the CBS-owned station in Miami, as the weekend weather anchor. In his new role, which begins June 15, he will also be the primary fill-in for chief meteorologist Craig Setzer.

“With his wealth of experience in the South Florida market and his expertise in general, John Gerard makes an excellent addition to our weather team,” WFOR news director Liz Roldan said in a statement.

Gerard moves to Miami from San Antonio, where he has been a meteorologist at WOAI for the past four years. He has previously worked in South Florida at WPLG and WTVJ in Miami.

Jerry Carnes Named Interim ‘Commuter Dude’ at WXIA in Atlanta

jerry carnesJerry Carnes will temporarily shift into the morning transportation reporter role at WXIA, the NBC affiliate in Atlanta, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution‘s Rodney Ho reports.

WXIA’s former “Commuter Dude,” John Gerard, recently moved to sister station WATL as the promotion manager. Carnes, who has worked at WXIA since 1988, will be the “Commuter Dude” at least through the end of the year, according to a post on his Facebook page.

“I will be working early mornings working to fix commuter problems– potholes, missing traffic signs, awkward intersections, and the like. I’ll be holding public officials accountable when these issues linger,” Carnes wrote. “I’m nervous and enthusiastic and eager to get started.”

Ho reports WXIA is in the middle of a nationwide search for a permanent replacement.

While covering the recent ACC men’s basketball tournament, Atlanta NBC-affiliate WXIA invited some team mascots into its studio, but an unofficial mascot–a skunk–showed up unannounced.

It was eventually revealed that traffic reporter John Gerard, aka “Commuter Dude,” had rented a skunk costume to surprise his morning colleagues.
