After a long search for its next news director, South Bend’s WSBT decided to promote from within. John Haferkamp, who has been an executive producer at the station since 2006, has been named news director.

“We conducted a thorough search for the right person to lead WSBT’s newsroom into the future and were very pleased that John rose to the top of the long list of candidates by demonstrating that he has the talent and leadership skills we need,” said Sally Brown, WSBT’s president and general manager. “John is extremely dedicated to doing what’s right for WSBT.”

Haferkamp has been with the CBS-affiliate for 13 years. He joined the station as a producer and has risen through the ranks, becoming an assignment manager before moving up to executive producer. The promotion is the reward for years of dedication to WSBT and to the South Bend area.
