Texas Station Group Adds News Director

Amie Hudspeth has been named news director at the Victoria Television Group in Victoria, Tex.

Station GM Jeff Pryor told TVSpy, Hudspeth starts next Monday. Hudspeth replaces Jennifer Dodd who left in July to work as assistant news director at KENS in San Antonio.

Hudspeth was assistant news director at WNCT in Greenville, N.C. She has also worked at WOAI in San Antonio, Tex. and KEYE in Austin, Tex.

The Saga Communications owned Victoria Television Group owns and/or operates the ABC (KAVU), NBC (KMOL), FOX (KVCT), Telemundo (KVTX), CBS (KXTS), and Univision (KUNU) stations in the Victoria market.

John Estrada Named Anchor at KAVU

estrada_kavuJohn Estrada has joined KAVU, the ABC affiliate for Victoria, TX, as evening anchor.

Estrada tweeted after his first newscast last night, “I’m so excited to be here & get to know u in the #Victoria community!”

Before working at KAVU, Estrada was a producer for “The Cycle” on MSNBC and “Weekend Today” on NBC.

Steve Alexander’s WKRG Contract Not Renewed

Steve Alexander, a reporter at CBS-affiliate WKRG in Mobile, is leaving the station next month when his contract is up.

“I want to take a moment to thank all of you,” Alexander wrote on Facebook. “My contract at Channel 5 is not being renewed, and my last day at work is November 20.”

Alexander joined WKRG in 2000 from KAVU, the ABC-affiliate in in Victoria, TX. He has also worked at WVUE in New Orleans, KDEB in Springfield, MO and WTVW in Evansville.
