Giacomo Luca Starts His Climb Up the Ladder

luca wlio_304In April, we told you about Roosevelt University student Giacomo Luca who spent his weekends producing and anchoring for Lima, OH, NBC affiliate WLIO four hours away.

Robert Feder reports Luca has graduated and now has a job at KFVS, the CBS affiliate in Cape Girardeau, MO. He’ll work as a reporter.

“I believe that my new position with KFVS in a considerably larger market with a larger corporation will better help me advance toward my goal of becoming an international correspondent,” Luca told Feder.

Cape Girardeau Stations to Continue Sharing Agreement

kfvs_kbsi_croppedRaycom Media’s Cape Girardeau, MO, CBS affiliate KFVS has agreed to keep producing the 9:00 p.m. news for Sinclair Broadcasting’s cross-town FOX affiliate KBSI.

“KFVS12 produces the finest news product in our market.  We are very happy that we will continue to provide news viewer’s the choice of a first-class 9 p.m. newscast during Fox 23’s prime time lineup,” said KBSI general manager Mike Smythe.

This is the fourth year for “Heartland News at Nine” which airs in the Cape Girardeau, Paducah, KY, and Harrisburg, IL, market. The latest agreement runs through September 2016.

“We’re happy to continue our relationship with KBSI,” said KFVS general manager Tim Ingram. “Heartland News is dedicated to being where the viewer needs us to be, whether on your phone, on your tablet, on your computer, or on a different television station at a non-traditional time. We’re proud to partner with KBSI to continue the service.”

Mike Smythe Comes Out of Retirement to Lead KBSI

Mike Smythe, who retired as vice president and general manager of KFVS in November, has been tapped to lead KBSI, KFVS’s rival in the Paducah, KY-Cape Girardeau, MO market.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to return to the area and join the KBSI,” said Smythe, who will also oversee KBSI sister station WDKA.  “Having competed against the stations for so many years, I have a full appreciation and respect for their capabilities and market presence.”

Smythe spent thirteen years at CBS-affiliate KFVS.  He began as the station’s general sales manager before being promoted to VP-GM, a position he held for eleven years. Read more

Raycom Taps WMC News Director Tracey Rogers as KAIT General Manager

Raycom Media has tapped Tracey Rogers as vice president and general manager of KAIT in Jonesboro, AR.  Rogers is currently the news director at WMC, Raycom’s Memphis station.

Rogers, who has been WMC’s ND since 2007, replaces Tim Ingram at KAIT.  Raycom recently named Ingram vice president and general manager of KFVS in Cape Girardeau, MO.

“Both of these internal promotions further confirm Raycom’s commitment to growing and promoting talent and management within the company,” Raycom stated in a press release announcing Rogers’ promotion. Read more

Tim Ingram Takes Over As VP-GM of KFVS

Tim Ingram has been named vice president and general manager of KFVS, the CBS-affiliate serving Southeastern Missouri, Raycom Media announced. Ingram replaces Mike Smythe, who recently retired after 11 years with the station.

“Following Mike Smythe at KFVS is a huge undertaking,” Ingram said in a statement. “He is a legend in our company and in our industry and leaves immense shoes to fill.”

Ingram joins KFVS after four years as general manager at KAIT, the Raycom-owned ABC-affiliate in Jonesboro, AR. Until a replacement for him is named, he will serve in both roles.
