Anchor Hannah Horne Says Goodbye to WIS

WIS morning anchor Hannah Horne is saying goodbye to the NBC affiliate in Columbia, S.C. to pursue a career in business.

“I’m a little nervous to try something new, but I’m prepared,” Horne told The State. “I’ve never been more ready.”

Horne, who joined the station in 2000, anchored her final broadcast Thursday. The State reports Mary King, who is a multimedia journalist for WIS, will replace Horne.

Before joining WIS in 2000, Horne worked at KPLC in Lake Charles, La. and WLOX in Biloxi, Miss.

Drew Shirley Joins KHOU From KPLC

Sportscaster Drew Shirley is moving behind the camera. Houston media blogger Mike McGuff reports Shirley will join CBS affiliate KHOU as a sports producer.

Shirley, a Houston native, has been commuting to Lake Charles, La. since he was hired as sports director for KPLC last year.

“I’ll be on air occasionally, but mainly working behind the scenes with Bob Allen to put together the daily sportscasts,” Shirley told McGuff. “I love being the sports guy here at KPLC, but after 11 months of commuting to Lake Charles, I am ecstatic about this new gig.”

Sam Gannon Joins KOKH From KPLC

Sportscaster Sam Gannon has joined KOKH, the Fox affiliate in Oklahoma City.

“New chapter, new city. Excited for my first day at @okcfox!” Gannon tweeted earlier this week.

Gannon joins KOKH after almost two years at KPLC, the NBC affiliate in Lake Charles, La., where she was the weekend sports anchor. She began her career as a production assistant at WVIT, the NBC O&O in New Haven.

Drew Shirley Joins KPLC as Sports Director

Drew Shirley is the new sports director at KPLC, the NBC-affiliate in Lake Charles, LA.

Shirley joins the station after a two-year hiatus from the television business. He is a former sportscaster at KKCO in Grand Junction, CO KVUE in Austin and, most recently, KXII in Sherman, TX.

“I am so happy to be a sports guy again and to be able to stay close to home,” Shirley told Houston media blogger Mike McGuff. “[Last week] was my first day back on the air, and there’s just nothing like that feeling when the red light goes on.”
