WPTZ Adds New Digital Subchannel

wptz-google-plus-logoOn September 15, WPTZ will split its CW and MeTV Network broadcasts into two digital subchannels.

The Plattsburg-Burlington NBC affiliate said the new channel 5.3 will allow the station to expand the programming of both networks. The two have been sharing the broadcast day on subchannel 5.2 since March 2013.

According to WPTZ/WNNE President and General Manager Kyle Grimes, “providing three separate channels of diverse programming is a really exciting opportunity for our market. Whether it’s local news and weather, cutting edge drama and entertainment or classic comedy, we will have something for everyone.” Read more

WPTZ Adds CW Programming on Subchannel

WPTZ, the NBC affiliate in Plattsburgh, N.Y., has added CW programming on a digital subchannel weeknights from 8 to 10 p.m.

The digital subchannel will continue broadcasting classic shows as part of its MeTV affiliation during the day.

“The way we see it, great TV is great TV — no matter what your age,” WPTZ-WNNE president and general manager Kyle Grimes said in a statement. “We hope viewers will share our excitement for a station that pairs some of the country’s best new programming with its finest classic TV shows.”

Paige Harrison Named News Director at WPBF

Paige Harrison is joining WPBF as news director.  Harrison comes to the West Palm Beach ABC affiliate from WTAE in Pittsburgh where she was assistant news director.

“It’s a tremendous opportunity to return to Florida and join the area’s most talented and hard-working local news team,” said Harrison. “WPBF 25 has seen historic ratings growth, and I look forward to further strengthening our commitment to the South Florida viewers.”

Harrison, who moves from one Hearst station to another, fills the empty chair vacated by Kyle Grimes’ promotion to president and general manager of Hearst Stations WPTZ-WNNE in Plattsburgh-Burlington.

GM Paul Sands to Retire From WPTZ-WNNE; WPBF News Director Tapped as Replacement

Paul Sands, president and general manager of Hearst Television’s WPTZ-WNNE in Plattsburgh-Burlington, has announced his retirement.

Sands will be succeeded by Kyle Grimes, who is currently the news director at another Hearst station, WPBF in Palm beach. The move is return to WPTZ-WNNE for Grimes, who was news director at the stations from 2005-08.

In a statement announcing the moves, Hearst president and CEO David Barrett said the management transition “takes on special significance, with Kyle Grimes succeeding his one-time mentor Paul Sands at the helm of our stations.”

Sands will stay on for the next few months during the transitional period, according to the statement. Read more
