Anchor Nicole Pence Leaving WLEX for WTHR

WLEX morning anchor Nicole Pence is leaving the station later this month to join WTHR, the Lexington Herald-Leader reports.

Pence joined the Lexington NBC-affiliate in 2008 as a reporter and was promoted to morning c0-anchor in 2009. At WTHR, she will anchor the weekend morning newscasts and report during the week.

Pence, an Indiana native, told the Herald-Leader that WTHR, the NBC-affiliate in Indianapolis, was her “dream station.”

WLEX news director Bruce Carter said the station is currently conducting a national search for Pence’s replacement, though internal candidates are also being considered.

Lexington’s WLEX Adding Early Morning Newscast

WLEX, the NBC-affiliate in Lexington, will launch a 4:30 a.m. newscast on Monday.

“It’s just a natural extension of what we’re doing already,” news director Bruce Carter told the Lexington Herald-Leader. “I remember years ago, people asked who’s going to watch at 5 a.m., and we have tremendous ratings at 5. So we know there’s an audience out there at 4:30 a.m.”

The extra-half hour will be helmed by Chris Goodman and Nicole Pence, who currently anchor the station’s 5-7 a.m. newscast.
