Melissa Mahan Joins WFXT as Weekend Anchor

WFXT has announced Melissa Mahan will join Heather Hegedus as weekend anchor for the Boston Fox O&O.

“Bringing experience as both an Anchor and a Reporter, Melissa is a tremendous addition to FOX25 News,” said WFXT vice president and news director Paul McGonagle. “It’s a pleasure to welcome her back to the area to cover news important to New England viewers.”

Mahan, who last worked at KOAT, was an anchor and reporter for WLNE in Providence, RI, before anchoring for the Albuquerque ABC affiliate.

“I am honored to join the outstanding team at FOX25,” said Mahan, who will also report for WFXT.  “I’ve missed the Northeast since leaving Providence a few years ago and can’t wait to get back to the wonderful people, culture and sports teams. I look forward to making Boston my home.”

Mahan previously worked at KJCT in Grand Junction, CO, KTVE in Monroe, LA and Fox Sports Net Bay Area.

Meteorologist Shiri Spear Joins WFXT From WTVJ

Meteorologist Shiri Spear is joining WFXT, the Fox O&O in Boston, on November 19.

Spear, a New England native, will be the meteorologist for the morning newscast. She comes from WTVJ, the NBC O&O in Miami.

“Shiri brings an abundance of knowledge and experience in forecasting New England weather,” WFXT vice president and news director Paul McGonagle said in a statement. “She will be a great addition to the FOX25 weather team and we’re happy to welcome her back to her hometown.”

Spear replaces Cindy Fitzgibbon, who signed off from the station last month.

Cindy Fitzgibbon Signing Off From Boston’s WFXT

After more than a decade at WFXT, meteorologist Cindy Fitzgibbon is leaving the Fox O&O in Boston.

“I’ve made a decision, just really for personal reasons, that when my contract expires on October 3, I’m not going to re-sign,” Fitzgibbon said on the morning newscast today (video above). “I just kind of want to take a little bit of a break. My last day will be in two weeks.” Read more

Sorboni Banerjee to Join WFXT Morning Newscast

It’s official: beginning next month, Sorboni Banerjee will join the WFXT morning newscast, the Boston Fox O&O announced today.

News of Banerjee’s move was first reported in April. She joins WFXT from rival WHDH, the NBC-affiliate, where she has been a reporter and weekend anchor since 2006.

“Sorboni is one of the most recognizable and respected journalists in Boston and her talents and energy are a welcome addition to the FOX25 Morning News team,” WFXT vice president and news director Paul McGonagle said in a statement.

Banerjee will start at WFXT on June 11. She will serve as an anchor and reporter for the morning newscast, which also is co-hosted by Gene Lavanchy and Shannon Mulaire.

Sarah Wroblewski Named Weekend Meteorologist at Boston’s WFXT

WFXT, the Fox O&O in Boston, has officially named Sarah Wroblewski to weekend meteorologist.

Wroblewski joined the station last year as a fill-in meteorologist and environmental reporter. In a statement, WFXT news director Paul McGonagle called Wroblewski “a strong addition to our weather team.”

Prior to joining WFXT, Wroblewski spent five years at rival station WBZ, the Boston CBS O&O, where she was a weather reporter and weekend morning meteorologist.

Shannon Mulaire Promoted to Mornings at WFXT

Shannon Mulaire has been named morning anchor at Boston Fox O&O WFXT.

Mulaire joined WFXT in 2010 as a weekend anchor and weekday reporter. She replaces Kim Carrigan, who was cut loose from the station earlier this month, as Gene Lavanchy‘s co-anchor on the morning newscast.

“I’m delighted that Shannon is joining our morning team,” WFXT vice president and news director Paul McGonagle said in a statement. “Her New England roots and strong reporting skills are an asset to the station and we look forward to the new energy she’ll bring to FOX25 Morning News.”

Paul McGonagle Picked to Lead WFXT Newsroom

Boston’s WFXT has picked Paul McGonagle to lead its news department. The Fox O&O announced today that McGonagle, who has served as assistant news director since 2004, has been named vice president and news director.

“Paul is a talented, creative and dedicated news manager with extensive Boston market knowledge and experience,” said Gregg Kelley, WFXT’s vice president and general manager, in announcing the promotion. “He has excelled as the Assistant News Director for this station over the past seven years and has earned the opportunity to be the next leader of our news operations.”

Before joining WFXT, McGonagle served as a general assignment reporter and later assistant news director for Providence’s WJAR. He began his TV career as an anchor and reporter for Burlington’s WNNE.

“I’m excited for the incredible opportunity and the privilege to lead such a talented news team,” McGonagle said. “I look forward to continuing to serve our viewers in the Boston market, my hometown.”
