KATV Promotes Nick Genty to News Director

Nick Genty has been named news director of Little Rock’s KATV.

Joining the station as assistant ND just a couple of months ago after 21 years with crosstown rival KTHV, Genty succeeds Randy Dixon, who announced in February that he was leaving KATV after more than three decades with the ABC-affiliate.

Genty announced the promotion via Twitter, saying, “I have been given the job to lead the best News Team in the market.”

Genty joined KATV in February as a replacement for the departing Alan Faulkner. At the time, he said that the job “just kind of found me.” Before joining KATV, Genty worked as an executive producer for KTHV. [Via Arkansas Business]

Following High-Profile Departures, KATV Hires New Assistant News Director

Little Rock’s KATV has hired Nick Genty as assistant news director, filling one of two vacancies atop its news team.

In January, Alan Faulkner left the assistant AD post and longtime news director Randy Dixon announced earlier this month that he was departing as well.

Genty comes to the ABC-affiliate from crosstown rival KTHV, where he worked for 21 years, first as a photojournalist and most recently as an executive producer.

“This job just kind of found me, and it was just a really good opportunity,” Genty said. “I’m always a believer that news finds you.”

KATV continues to search for a new news director.

News Director Randy Dixon Departs KATV After 31 Years

Randy Dixon, who has been KATV‘s news director for the past 10 years, announced on Wednesday that he is stepping down.

The move took many people by surprise since Dixon is essentially putting in his two weeks notice after having spent his entire career with the Little Rock ABC-affiliate.

Dixon released the following statement about his departure:

This is something I’ve been thinking about for a long time. [KATV General Manager] Mark Rose and I have been talking about it since before Christmas and I thought this was a good time to do it. I’m basically a producer at heart. That’s what I love to do and I’m not doing that anymore… I miss it. I have two small children and I miss them. I’m here so much and I want to spend some more time with them. So I can’t go take a news director job in a different market. I’m staying in Little Rock.

Dixon is now the third high profile departure from KATV in the past week.  The station’s assistant news director and chief engineer left last week to “pursue other opportunities.” Read more
