News Director and Anchor Steve Hawkins is Out at WCYB

Steve Hawkins, news director and anchor for WCYB, has left after more than three decades with the station.

Hawkins has been a fixture at WCYB, a NBC-affiliate serving northeastern Tennessee and southwestern Virginia, since his junior year of college in 1976. He has most recently appeared on the station’s 6 p.m. newscast alongside Ann Carter.

Hawkins has not been with the station since March 24th, according to the Johnson City Press. Both Hawkins and the station have been mum about the reasons for his exit.

Hawkins has held the news director post since 1985.
