Bert Case to Debut on WAPT

bert case_croppedLongtime Jackson, MS, anchor  Bert Case makes his return to ABC affiliate WAPT.

“Having one of Mississippi’s finest journalists join 16 WAPT News means we will serve our viewers better than ever,” WAPT GM Stuart Kellogg said in a statement. “I’ve known Bert for more than 30 years and I’m so excited that he is now on OUR team!”

Case started as news director at WAPT in 1970 before leaving for cross-town NBC affiliate WLBT in 1974. He left WLBT in January, months shy of his 40 year anniversary.

Case will do investigative reports for the station’s evening newscasts. He will also serve as consumer advocate.

Bruce Barkley Named News Director at WYFF, Ben Hart to Replace Him at WAPT

WAPT news director Bruce Barkley (pictured) is moving from Jackson, Miss. to Greenville, S.C., where he will take over as news director of WYFF.

It is a move within Hearst for Barkley, who has served as WAPT’s news director since 2000. He will step into the role vacated by Justin Antoniotti, who is leaving WYFF to serve as news director for another Hearst station, WATE in Pittsburgh.

“We feel very fortunate to welcome someone of Bruce’s experience and knowledge,” WYFF general manager John Soapes said in a statement. “He has a proven track record of creating outstanding local television news programming, all while providing superior leadership and building great teams.”

Ben Hart, who has been assistant news director of WAPT since 2010, will step into the news director role at the Jackson ABC affiliate. Hart is a graduate of Mississippi State University. Read more

WAPT Welcomes 2 New Members to News Team

WAPT, the ABC affiliate in Jackson, MS, has added two new members to its news team: anchor Travell Eiland and sports director Aslan Hodges.

Eiland, who will anchor the morning broadcast alongside Megan West and meteorologist Ethan Huston, has been an investigative reporter for WBBH in Fort Meyers since 2009. He joins WAPT on August 16.

“We’re committed to the mornings, and Travell will make us stronger,” station president and general manager Stuart Kellogg said in a statement. “People all over the community are asking who’s accountable for issues that affect them. Travell is committed to finding answers.”

Hodges will join the station’s 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts on August 10. He will contribute sports reports to the evening broadcast alongside Stephanie Maxwell, Darren Dedo and chief meteorologist David Hartman. Hodges was most recently the sports director at KBZK-KXLF in Bozeman, MT.
