Realtor Sues KYW For Defamation, Emotional Distress

kyw_304A Pennsylvania realtor is suing KYW for emotional distress and defamation, claiming the Philadelphia station aired a “preposterous and knowingly false story” about her, the Philadelphia Daily News reports.

KYW Adds Jessica Dean as Anchor

KYW, the CBS owned station for Philadelphia, has announced the addition of Jessica Dean as weekday evening anchor.

She will join Chris May on the station’s 5:00, 6:00 and 11:00 p.m. news as well as the 10:00 pm. news on KYW’s sister station, CW affiliate WPSG. Dean replaces Susan Barnett, who left KYW in April after the station said she chose not to sign a new deal.

“We are excited to welcome Jessica to our news team,” KYW vice president and news director Susan Schiller said in a statement. “Her personal connection with both her viewers and her stories is a perfect fit for the legacy of Eyewitness News and the stations’ commitment to the community.  I know she, along with Chris, will lead our exceptional team of journalists to a new level of excellence.”

Dean comes to KYW from KARK in Little Rock, AR, where she was the evening news anchor. She has also worked at Little Rock’s KATV and at KNWA-KFTA in Fort Smith, AR.

Jim Osman Leaving KYW To ‘Explore Other Reporting Opportunities’

Jim Osman, an investigative reporter at KYW in Philadelphia, is leaving the CBS O&O after being unable to agree on terms of a new contract.

In an email to staff obtained by the Philadelphia Daily News, KYW news director Susan Schiller said while management “had productive discussions with Jim about staying,” the investigative reporter ultimately wanted to “explore other reporting opportunities.”

Osman joined KYW in 2005. His last day at the station will be Friday.

Ukee Washington Set to Mark 25 Years with KYW

Philadelphia’s KYW is preparing to celebrate anchor Ukee Washington‘s impressive 25-year tenure with the station. May 25th marks Washington’s quarter century with the station.

“Ukee is one of those rare newscasters that does everything well,” says Susan Schiller, KYW’s news director. “Whether it’s hosting a town hall meeting on the future of public education or joining a top chef for an in-studio cooking segment, Ukee brings the totality of his experience as the ultimate hometown anchor to the table.”

Born in West Philadelphia, Washington joined the CBS O&O in 1986 as a sports anchor. Ten years later he transitioned to news anchor of KYW’s morning and noon newscasts.

An Emmy award-winner, Washington was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia Hall of Fame in 2008.
