WBBJ Names Shanda Sundstrom News Director

WBBJ, the ABC and CBS affiliate for Jackson, TN, has named Shanda Sundstrom news director.

“I am excited to take the reins as News Director at WBBJ-TV,” said Sundstrom. “I look forward to leading the team established as the West Tennessee News leader, while growing a strong web and social media presence.”

Sundstrom comes to WBBJ from KFSM in Fort Smith, AR where she was executive producer.  She has also worked as a producer in El Paso, TX, and Miami, FL. In Sioux Falls, SD, she was a producer and reporter.

Her first day at WBBJ will be one week from Monday on April 15.

Reporter Brittany Noble Joins KMOV From WEYI

Brittany Noble is returning home to St. Louis as she joins CBS affiliate KMOV as a reporter.

Since September 2011, Noble has reported for the morning newscast at WEYI, the NBC affiliate in Saginaw, Mich. Her first day at KMOV will be January 7.

Noble has also worked at WBBJ in Jackson, Tenn., as a reporter and anchor. She began her career working as a producer at KAIT in Jonesboro, Ark. while she pursued a master’s degree in journalism at Arkansas State University.

Morning Anchor Natasha Williams Out at WHIO

Natasha Williams has parted ways with WHIO after 19 years at the Dayton CBS-affiliate.

Williams has not appeared at the WHIO morning anchor desk since late last month. The station has been responding to comments on its Facebook page with a statement that reads, “Natasha no longer works at WHIO-TV. We wish her well in her future endeavors!”

Williams co-anchored the morning newscast with John Paul. Before joining WHIO in 1993 as a reporter, she worked at WBBJ in Jackson, WTVO in Rockford and WKEF in Dayton.

WBBJ Taps Keith Baker as News Director

Keith Baker has been hired as news director at WBBJ, the ABC-affiliate in Jackson, TN. The move was confirmed to TVSpy by WCTI, where Baker is currently the assistant news director.

Baker joined WCTI last year from WFTS, the ABC-affiliate in Tampa, where he was an assignment editor. He has also worked at WPXI in Pittsburgh as an assignment editor and assignment manager.

He replaces Robert Davidson, who left the station to become news director for WCBI in Columbus, MS.

Jackson, TN Will Get CBS Affiliate In January 2012

CBS and Bahakel Communications have announced an agreement to air CBS programming on a subchannel of WBBJ, the Bahakel-owned ABC-affiliate in Jackson, TN, beginning early next year. The station was previously a CBS affiliate from 1955-68.

“WBBJ signed on in 1955 as a CBS affiliate, so this new agreement is both a ‘return engagement’ and a welcome opportunity to expand our partnership with the seasoned broadcast executives at Bahakel Communications,” Diana Wilkin, president of CBS affiliate relations, said in a statement.

CBS programming — including national newscasts, entertainment and sports — will air on channel 7.3 in the market. Read more
