Les Vann Named GM at WJCL-WTGS

LIN Media has named Les Vann president and general manager of WJCL and WTGS, the ABC and Fox affiliates in Savannah, Ga.

Vann moves to Savannah from Cincinnati, where he has been vice president and general manager of WKRC for five years. He is also a former general manager of WTVH in Syracuse, N.Y., WLOS in Asheville, N.C., and WICD in Champaign, Ill.

“It is an honor to join one of the most successful and forward-thinking media companies in the country, which has a strong reputation of investing in its products, people and communities,” Van said in a statement.

Vann replaces Scott McBride as the stations’ president and general manager.

Sports Anchor Josh Samuels Leaving WPEC

Josh Samuels, the weekend sports anchor at WPEC, is leaving the West Palm Beach CBS affiliate.

“I do not agree with the direction that the station wants to take the sports department and decided it was best for me to pursue other opportunities,” Samuels told TVSpy in an email.

Samuels joined WPEC in 2008 after five years as the sports director at WICD in Champaign, Ill. Before that, he was sports director at KREX in Grand Junction, Colo.

Elitsa Bizios Promoted to Evening Anchor at WICD

Elitsa Bizios has officially been named evening anchor at WICD, the ABC-affiliate in Champaign, IL.

Bizios, an Illinois native, has been anchoring the station’s 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts since April on a temporary basis. She joined WICD last September as a reporter and fill-in anchor.

“Elitsa is a solid journalist who brings experience and excitement to her new position,” news director Katie McManus-Faye said. “She was born and raised in Illinois and has ties to the community. In addition, Elitsa relates to the people in this area and understands the issues affecting them.”

Elitsa Bizios has been delivering the WICD Newschannel 15 nightly newscasts since April of 2012. Now, WICD is pleased to officially recognize Elitsa as the Lead Weeknight Anchor of ABC Newschannel 15, broadcasting nightly at 5, 6 and 10pm.
