Greg Conner Named GM of WXLV-WMYV

wxlv logoSinclair Broadcast Group has named Greg Conner general manager of WXLV and WMYV, the ABC and MyNetworkTV affiliates in Winston-Salem, N.C.

“Throughout my career I have found that hard work, dedication and delivering results has consistently led to amazing opportunities, especially with a company like Sinclair,” Conner said in a statement. ”I have always had aspirations to become a General Manager, and I am excited to be joining the team at WXLV and WMYV and leading them in their future successes.”

Conner has worked for Sinclair for 14 years, most recently as the director of sales at KVCW-KVMY in Las Vegas. Before that, he was local sales manager at WLOS-WMYA in Asheville-Greenville-Spartanburg.

“Greg has proven himself to be a strong leader, manager and salesperson and has a consistent track record of training, managing and motivating his teams to achieve or exceed their goals throughout his 18 years in media.  We are excited to have him join the team in Greensboro,” Steve Marks, co-chief operating officer of Sinclair’s television group, said.

Katie Killen Joins KKTV in Colorado Springs

Katie Killen has joined KKTV, the CBS affiliate in Colorado Springs, as the morning co-anchor. Killen’s first day on the air was March 14.

Killen joins KKTV from WCNC in Charlotte, where she has been a reporter on the morning and midday newscasts since 2012. Before WCNC, she worked at WLOS in Asheville, N.C. and TV3 in Winchester, Va.

 

Sinclair to Add Mobile DTV in Nine Markets

Sinclair Broadcast Group has announced it will begin broadcasting mobile capable signals from ten of its stations in nine markets.

“The pace of technology makes it imperative for broadcasters to continue to lead in serving our communities,” said Mark Aitken, vice president of Advanced Technology for Sinclair and chairman of the ATSC A/153 MobileDTV standardization activity. “Broad adoption of MobileDTV, as a part of our local broadcast television offering, is the next step. We are confident our Network partners will see the value mobile simulcasting brings in building station and Network brands, audience share, and local television relevancy.”

Mobile DTV, as the service is called, allows viewers to watch their favorite local broadcast stations, for free, on portable devices like smart phones and tablets by adding a plug-in adapter. Read more

Les Vann Named GM at WJCL-WTGS

LIN Media has named Les Vann president and general manager of WJCL and WTGS, the ABC and Fox affiliates in Savannah, Ga.

Vann moves to Savannah from Cincinnati, where he has been vice president and general manager of WKRC for five years. He is also a former general manager of WTVH in Syracuse, N.Y., WLOS in Asheville, N.C., and WICD in Champaign, Ill.

“It is an honor to join one of the most successful and forward-thinking media companies in the country, which has a strong reputation of investing in its products, people and communities,” Van said in a statement.

Vann replaces Scott McBride as the stations’ president and general manager.

Russ Bowen Joining Seattle’s KOMO

Russ Bowen has announced he is joining Seattle ABC affiliate KOMO as weekend co-anchor.

Bowen announced the news on his facebook page saying,

I’m so excited to finally be able to share some exciting news! I’m heading to Seattle. I’ll be the new weekend co-anchor for KOMO-TV. My last day at WLOS is Feb 8th and I leave for Seattle Feb 10th! I can’t thank you all enough for being such wonderful friends and viewers. Western North Carolina and everyone who lives here will always have a special place in my heart….

Bowen co-anchors the 10 pm. news for MyNetworkTV affiliate WMYA and reports daily for WLOS, the ABC affiliate for Asheville, NC.  He started working at the station in 2000 as bureau chief of the Western Carolina News Center. Before coming to WLOS, Bowen worked for WCTI in New Bern, NC.

Sinclair Executive Defends Election Special: ‘it was hard-hitting, but it was fair’

Scott Livingston, Sinclair Broadcasting’s vice president of news, is defending the company’s election special against criticism that it presented an anti-Obama agenda. The special — which aired on six stations in battleground states on Monday night — was  a “continuation of the engagement of the audience and the process of educating them about the topics,” Livingston tells TVNewsCheck:

“No doubt it was hard-hitting, but it was fair,” said VP of News Scott Livingston, who oversees the local news operations of 42 Sinclair stations. “No one is disputing the facts of the stories that aired in the special.”

Livingston said no partisan agenda was at play in producing the show — nor in choosing the markets in which it was played. Read more

Ingrid Allstaedt Promoted to Weekend Morning Anchor at WLOS

Ingrid Allstaedt moves to weekend morning anchor and weekday reporter at WLOS, the ABC affiliate for Asheville, NC.

She steps into the role left vacant by Katie Killen‘s departure to Charlotte’s NBC affiliate WCNC.

Allstaedt told TVSpy, “I’m looking forward to showcasing the uniqueness and beauty nestled in the mountains of North Carolina, as I wake up each weekend with my family and friends on News13 This Weekend.”"

Her first day will be Saturday.  She was previously the Rutherford County reporter for WLOS.
