Crotchety local news reporter Herb Welch was back on “Saturday Night Live” this past weekend. Welch, played by Bill Hader, was out covering the Occupy movement for fictional New York station WXPD and Eli Manning, the show’s host, fell victim to his microphone (video above).
Welch is a dead-ringer for former WNYW reporter Dick Oliver.

Welch, a character reminiscent of WNYW’s Dick Oliver, did his regular routine of battering interviewees with his microphone and arguing with anchors via satellite before dropping dead. Remembering the deceased Welch, “SNL” displayed a photo of him alongside his protégé Andy Rooney (video above).
