Len Jennings, who will join KMBC in Kansas City this summer, signed off from Fort Myers NBC-affiliate WBBH last night.

The station called on past and present staffers, as well as a few surprise guests from NBC News, for a final sendoff to Jennings, who has been with WBBH-WZVN since 2001.

“You’ve taught me so much about being a class act, a nice guy, humble. I haven’t actually tried any of those things for myself yet, but you did teach me,” WBBH anchor Patrick Nolan joked.

“From all of us here at the mother ship, NBC News headquarters in New York, we want to wish you all the best as you leave our Southwest Florida family,” “NBC Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams said. Video inside… Read more

Jeff Butera Joins WZVN From WFTS

Reporter Jeff Butera is leaving WFTS in Tampa to join WZVN in Fort Myers.

Butera, who has worked at WFTS since 2009, will anchor the 5, 6, 7 and 11 p.m. newscasts for WZVN, the Fort Myers ABC-affiliate.

“It’s tough to leave behind the great people I’ve worked with and met along the way in Tampa Bay, but I’m excited about a new challenge,” he wrote on Facebook.

Butera replaces Len Jennings, who is joining KMBC-KCWE in Kansas City.

WBBH Anchor Len Jennings to Join KMBC-KCWE

KMBC-KCWE has hired anchor Len Jennings, the Kansas City ABC-affiliate announced today.

Jennings will co-anchor the 5 and 9 p.m. newscasts alongside Kelly Eckerman. He joins KMBC from WBBH-WZVN in Fort Myers, where he has worked since 1997.

“Len brings valuable experience with him,” KMBC news director Sherrie Brown said in a statement. “His reporting skills and strong work ethic are the perfect compliment to our news team.”

WBBH general manager Steve Pontius told staffers today that Jennings’ last day at WBBH will be May 23.

“It’s been great to have him as part of our team and help set the stage for him to fulfill his dreams,” Pontius said.

In Fort Myers, WZVN-WBBH Shuffles Weather Roster

Meteorologist Jim Reif (right), who has been on the air in southwest Florida since 1979, will no longer be seen on WZVN’s evening newscasts.

As part of a shuffling of the weather lineup at sister stations WZVN (ABC) and WBBH (NBC), first reported by The News-Press, Reif will move from WZVN’s 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts to the 11 a.m. and noon newscasts at WBBH.

The move comes as Haley Webb, who was recently named weather chief of WZVN-WBBH, returns from maternity leave. She will handle WBBH’s 5, 5:30, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts while meteorologist John Patrick succeeds Reif at WZVN’s evening slots.

The shakeup, which essentially began in December when veteran Robert Van Winkle took over mornings for Webb, also has Allyson Rae moving from weekend mornings on WBBH to weekday mornings on WZVN.

Meteorologist Haley Webb to Manage Weather for WBBH, WZVN, WVIR

Haley Webb has received a big promotion as she prepares to return to WBBH following maternity leave.

Webb, who has been a daytime meteorologist for the Fort Myers NBC-affiliate sine 2005, has been named manager of weather services for Waterman Broadcasting, which owns WBBH in addition to WZVN in Naples and WVIR in Charlottesville.

Webb will now appear on WBBH’s 5:30, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts while also managing the weather operations of its two sister stations.

In making the announcement, the station said that Webb’s loyalty and dedication earned her the promotion.

Webb gave birth to a baby boy on January 18th and is currently on leave from the station.  She is set to return to the air on April 11th. Read more
