WNBC Names Shiba Russell and Tom Llamas Anchors of 5 p.m. Newscast

WNBC has named Shiba Russell and Tom Llamas the anchors of the 5 p.m. broadcast that will debut on the NBC owned-and-operated station September 12.

Russell currently anchors the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. weekend broadcasts and reports weekdays.

Llamas, who has been a general assignment reporter for WNBC since 2009, will be bumped up to anchor and will also become an NBC News correspondent as part of the promotion. Llamas has been with several NBCU entities: first as a production assistant at MSNBC, later an embed during the 2004 primaries covering the campaign of Rev. Al Sharpton, now MSNBC’s 6pm host, then being named a reporter at WTVJ in Miami before returning to New York and WNBC.

WNBC, which currently airs “New York Live” at 5 p.m., announced earlier this summer that the daily lifestyle show would slide back to 3 p.m. to make room for the additional newscast.
